HOW MANY RECTANGLES CAN YOU SEE?
HOW MANY RECTANGLES CAN YOU SEE?

Guide Questions:
1. How many rectangles can you see?
2. How did you come up to your answer?
3. What strategy did you use?
GROUP ACTIVITY

PROVE
ME
Group Activity: Prove me
Assign the following:
Leader – oversee the whole group activity
Secretary – will prepare ¼ sheet of paper and
will write down all the group members including
Group number.
Writer – Write their answers on the manila paper.
Reporter – discuss and explain the answer.
Group Activity: Prove me
Instruction:
✓ Write in the manila paper all the information needed to prove – Given, Figure,
Two-Column Proof, and supply the missing statements and reasons completely.
✓ Each group must collaborate, students who are not participating will be
receiving no points.
✓ Groups 1 & 4 and Groups 2 & 3 have the same proving, make sure to
collaborate with your groupmates, not with the other groups, groups who will ask
or just talk to the other groups will automatically get a minus points.
✓ 10 minutes will be given, NO EXTENSIONS! after which the reporters
from Groups 1 & 4 will explain and compare their answers and let’s see
what group is correct, then followed by Groups 2 & 3.

1. Given: ▭MATH is a parallelogram with ∠M is a right angle
Prove: ∠A, ∠T, and ∠H are right angles.
Proof
Statement Reasons
1. ▭MATH
1. ▭MATH is is aa parallelogram with∠M
parallelogramwith ∠Misisaa 1. Given
right
right angle
angle
2. ∠M = 90° 2.Definition of a right angle
3. ∠M ≅ ∠T and ∠A ≅ ∠H 3. In a parallelogram, opposite angles are congruent (Property 2)
4. m∠M ≅ m∠T and m∠A ≅ m∠H 4. Definition of congruent angles
5. ∠T = 90° 5. Substitution (SN 2 & 4)
6. m∠M + m∠A = 180° 6. Consecutive angles are supplementary
7. 90° + m∠A = 180° 7. Substitution (SN 2 & 6)
8. 90° = 90° 8. Reflexive Property (SN 7)
9. m∠A = 90° 9. Substitution (SN 4 & 8)
10. ∠H = 90° 10. Substitution
11. ∠A, ∠T, and ∠H are right angles. 11. If the measure of an angle is 90°, then it is a right angle.
12. ∴ MATH is a rectangle 12. Definition of Rectangle.

2. Given: ▭MATH is a rectangle with diagonals 𝑀𝑇 and 𝐻𝐴.
Prove: 𝑀𝑇 ≅ 𝐻𝐴.
Proof
Statement Reasons
1. ▭MATH is a rectangle with diagonals 1. Given
𝑀𝑇 and 𝐻𝐴.
2. 𝑀𝐻 ≅ 𝐴𝑇 2. In a parallelogram, opposite sides are congruent. (Property 1)
3. ∠MHT and ∠ATH are right angles 3. If a parallelogram has right angle, then it has four right angles
and the parallelogram is a rectangle. (Theorem 1)
4. ∠MHT ≅ ∠ATH 4. All right angles are congruent
5. 𝐻𝑇 ≅ 𝑇𝐻 5. Reflexive Property
6. △MHT ≅ △ATH 6. SAS Congruence Postulate
7. ∴ 𝑀𝑇 ≅ 𝐻𝐴 7. CPCTC

Guide Questions:
1. What can you say about the proving?
2. What theorem do you believe we illustrate in proving number 1?
3. How about number 2?
4. What is the sum of every 2 consecutive angles of a rectangles?
5. What can you say about the diagonals of a rectangles?
RECTANGLE
- a parallelogram with four right angles.
Theorems of Rectangle
Theorem 1. If a parallelogram has one right angle,
then it has four right angles and the parallelogram
is a rectangle.
Theorem 2. The diagonals of a rectangle are
congruent.
PRACTICE EXERCISE
Instruction: Using the theorem, solve the following:
I. Given: HATE is a rectangle.
1. If m∠ETA is 90°, find the m∠HET.
2. If AX is 15 cm, what is HT?
3. If AE measures 3x-11 cm and HT measures
x+3 cm, how long is HT?
II. Solve:
1. If the perimeter of a rectangle is 48 cm and its breadth is 6 cm, then find the
area of a rectangle.
2. If 1 envelope requires a 20 cm by 5 cm piece of paper, how many envelopes
can be made out of a sheet of paper 100 cm by 75 cm?
SHORT QUIZ
I. True or False. Read the statements carefully and identify if it is true or false.
1. If a parallelogram has one right angle, then it has four right angles, and the parallelogram is not a
rectangle.
2. The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent.
3. The rectangle possesses all the properties of a parallelogram.
4. A rectangle can have an angle that does not measure 90°
II. Solve the following: (Draw a figure and label completely and show solution)
1. Given that ABCD is a rectangle and its diagonals meets at E, where EC=6x-7 and AE=2x +5, find
DE.
2. The length of a rectangle is 6 cm and the width is 4 cm. If the length is increased by 2 cm, what
should be the width of the new rectangle that has the same area as the first one?
3. The width of the rectangle is 8 cm and its diagonal is 17 cm. Find the perimeter of the rectangle.
4. How many bricks each 26 cm long and 10 cm broad will be required to lay a footpath
260 cm long and 15 cm wide?
