PAST SIMPLE

 czynności dokonane, krótkie, które się rozpoczęły i zakończyły w przeszłości (We

built this house last year. → Zbudowaliśmy ten dom w zeszłym roku).

 wydarzenia chronologiczne z przeszłości (I got up at 7 a.m., had breakfast

and went to work. → Wstałam/em o 7 rano, zjadłam/em śniadanie i
poszłam/poszedłem do pracy).

PAST CONTINUOUS

 czynności i wydarzenia trwające dłużej w przeszłości, nie mamy pewności, że

zostały ukończone, wyrażone czasownikami niedokonanymi (We were
walking to school at 7.30 in the morning. → O 7.30 rano szliśmy do szkoły).

 dwie lub więcej czynności, które trwały jednocześnie w przeszłości i były

długotrwałe (While they were modernising the house, we were redesigning
the garden. → Kiedy oni modernizowali dom, my ponownie projektowaliśmy
ogród).
