GENERAL CONCEPT
The new V-engine concept is developed
for a wide range of applications, both
marine and land based. Flexibility of the
concept known from the inline engines
enables optimised use for propulsion,
traction or power generation.
A V-angle of 45° leads to an overall width
of 1650 mm, which is a reasonable value,
especially for locomotive applications.
An easy accessibility of parts which need
frequent control or require a preventive
maintenance was a major development
target. The fuel pumps as well as the
pushrods for the valve train are located on
the left and right side for easy
maintenance.
Basis for the development was to
ensure as much common parts with the
in-line model, as possible. Therefore,
the cylinder units, with cylinder-head,
piston, liner, valve train and fuel
injection system were take over from
the in-line model DZC. New designed
components ensure the capability of
20% power increase.
