TECHNICAL AND PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE BANANA
The banana is not strictly a tree as many might think, but we are talking about a large perennial
herb. Both the banana and other species of the genus Musa do not have a trunk, what we can
observe is known as pseudo-stems and they are, in fact, leaf sheaths. They are basal since they start
from the root, do not have a woody consistency and measure about 30 centimeters in diameter and
up to 7 meters high.

This plant is characterized by having one of the largest leaves in the plant kingdom. They are deeply
oblong, smooth, with a tender texture and a round base. Banana leaves are bright green on the top
and slightly lighter on the underside. The leaves are arranged in a spiral shape and when they begin
to unfold, they can reach 3 meters in length and 90 centimeters in width. The petiole is about 60
centimeters. It is easy to observe that the banana leaves open along their veins.

The rhizome of the plant, which can be underground or superficial according to the variety, is the
perennial part and a large number of fibrous-looking roots grow from it, reaching a depth of 1.5
meters.
