WAR OF 1812

Leaders: Josiah Quincy, Rufus King, Timothy Pickering

Goals:
To encourage the growth of manufacturing, finance, and commerce
To have a stronger federal government
Voted against the War of 1812
Major Arguments:
War of 1812 would disrupt trade and the overall economy
A stronger federal government would protect individual rights better as
opposed to separate state governments which would cause disruptions and
disputes
Regions: Concentrated in urban port towns, New England, the Northeast, and part
of Virginia
People (how many, what kinds): Composed and supported by merchants
Political/Economic Status: The federalist party lost most of their support as they
opposed the war, due to their belief that the war would disrupt maritime trade.
Their calling of the Hartford Convention, to discuss the declining economic status
of their country, and their call to to secede from the United States made them look
unpatriotic
