Assembly, Part Number 3060827-3 to Part Number 3060827-2
TFE731-72-5216 ENGINE - ACCESSORY DRIVES SECTION - Install Improved Plain Encased
Seal, PN 3020052-26

C. Reason
(1) Problem:
(a) TFE731 engines have a history of leaking starter-generator and alternator
gearshaft air-oil seals at the accessory drive gearbox cover, PN 3060810-1.
(2) Background:
(a) A new hydrodynamic air-oil seal has been designed that will reduce the
occurrences of oil leakage at the starter-generator and alternator gearshaft
seal locations of the accessory drive gearbox cover. Conguration changes to
the accessory drive gearbox cover now require shimming of the assembled
starter-generator and alternator gearshafts to make sure they are properly
positioned when the accessory drive gearbox assembly is fully assembled.
The existing accessory drive gearbox assembly, PN 3060827-2, can be
reworked in accordance with this service bulletin to incorporate the new air-oil
seal design. The reworked accessory drive gearbox assembly is reidentifed
to PN 3060827-4.
(3) Action:
(a) Rework the accessory drive gearbox assembly, PN 3060827-2, to incorporate
a new accessory drive gearbox cover, PN 3060810-2, air-oil seals PN
3075815-1, rotor seals PN 3075818-1. The accessory drive gearbox assembly
is reidentifed to PN 3060827-4.
D. Description
(1) This service bulletin provides instructions to rework the accessory drive gearbox
assembly from PN 3060827-2 to PN 3060827-4, by incorporating a new accessory
drive gearbox cover, PN 3060810-2, new air-oil seals, PN 3075815-1, new rotor seals,
PN 3075818-1, and associated hardware.
E. Compliance
(1) Compliance addresses a substantial improvement to reliability.
(2) Honeywell recommends that this service bulletin be accomplished at the next CZI.
F. Approval
(1) The change to the engine type design authorized by this service bulletin complies with
applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and is FAA approved.
