BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Hair loss is a distressing condition that associated with a multitude of natural,
medical or nutritional condition. (Hair loss of men and woman)Up to half of men and
women will experience androgenetic alopecia. That’s the term for male and female
pattern baldness, according to StatPearls. “Androgenetic hair loss is a hormonally
induced genetic hair loss,” says John Browning, MD, a dermatologist with Texas
Dermatology and Laser Specialists in San Antonio. And while the condition can
affect anyone, between people born male or female there are distinct differences on
the age that thinning starts, what parts of the scalp it affects, and other health
conditions associated with it. Knowing these differences can help you understand
what’s going on with your own head of hair and learn what you and your healthcare
team can do to treat it. Both men and women tend to lose hair thickness and amount
as they age. This type of baldness is not usually caused by a disease. It is related to
aging, heredity, and changes in the hormone testosterone. Inherited, or pattern
baldness, affects many more men than women. Male pattern baldness can occur at
any time after puberty. About 80% of men show signs of male pattern baldness by
age 70 years.Physical or emotional stress may cause one half to three quarters of
scalp hair to shed. This kind of hair loss is called telogen effluvium. Hair tends to
come out in handfuls when you shampoo, comb, or run your hands through your
hair. You may not notice this for weeks to months after the episode of stress. Hair
shedding decreases over 6 to 8 months. Telogen effluvium is usually temporary. But
it can become long-term (chronic). Traditional plant remedies have been used for
centuries in the treatment of hair loss, but only a few have been scientifically
evaluated. Peppermint (Menthapiperita) extracted from peppermint leaves is
generally regarded as an excellent carminative and gastric stimulant, and also has
been used in cosmetic formulations as fragrance component. The principal
ingredient of peppermint oil, methanol, is primarily responsible for it beneficial effect.
The aim of this study is to address the therapeutic potential of peppermint for hair
loss. That is why the researchers wouldlike to use the potential of peppermint a
remedy for baldness.
