Course description: An introduction to history, society, literature, and culture of Brazil from
an interdisciplinary perspective, considering the relevance of Brazil as the largest country in
South America and in Latin America. A selection of texts/films/music on major topics in the
panorama of Brazilian cultural history from 1500 to the present will be studied. Classes will
be a mixture of lectures and presentations given by guest speakers.

Course Learning objectives:

1. Introduce students to the Brazilian cultures through different cultural expressions;
