SS.9-12.WH.16. Describe the factors that shape group, national, or individual identity,
including but not limited to: institutions, religion, language, social class, geography, culture, and
society.

3. Objective(s)
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to Summarize material on an aspect of
Puerto Rican culture.
4. Materials/Resources
-Chromebook
-Presentation
-Guided Powerpoint
5. Instructional Procedures
a. Introduction
-Begin by discussing Puerto Rico and asking the students what significance it holds in the
lives of the students.
b. Activities or Learning Experiences
Direct Instruction (30-45 minutes)
 Present a lecture on various aspects of Puerto Rican culture, including traditions,
customs, food, music, and art. Use multimedia resources to enhance understanding.
Project-Based Learning (30-40 minutes)
 Students will be provided with a slideshow with self guided notes. They will need to
locate photos relating to different aspects of Puerto Rican culture, comment on the videos
we watch in class, and then do 3 of 7 reflection activities that are available.
 c. Closure
Facilitate a class discussion where each student presents their findings on their assigned
aspect of Puerto Rican culture.
 Summarize key points and encourage reflection on the significance of culture in shaping
identity.
d. Extension/ Contingency Plan
 Provide additional resources or support for students who need extra assistance with
research or presentation skills.
 Adjust the complexity of the project or provide alternative assignments for students with
specific needs.

 Implement IEP and 504 modifications as needed.

7. Assessment/Evaluation of Learning
 Assess student understanding through their participation in the group project and their
ability to summarize material on Puerto Rican culture.
 Use a rubric to evaluate the quality of group presentations and individual contributions

8. Homework Assignment
Assign students to reflect on what they learned about Puerto Rican culture and its significance in
shaping national identity.

9. Post-Lesson Reflection
I thought the lesson was very successful, I had good participation when it came to asking the
students questions. A decent number of students got the slides turned in, and its leading in well
to the lesson on Monday. Which will be Puerto Rican current events.
