2. The expression f(𝑥) = 𝑎𝑥 3 − (𝑎 + 3𝑏)𝑥 2 + 2𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 is exactly divisible by 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥. When f(𝑥) is divided by 𝑥 − 1, the remainder is
8 more than when it is divided by 𝑥 + 1.
a. Factorise f(𝑥) completely. [12]
b. Hence sketch the curve 𝑦 = f(𝑥) and find the range of values of 𝑥 for which f(𝑥) < 0. [3]

3. The expression 𝑥 2 + 𝑝𝑥 + 𝑟 leaves the same remainder when divided by 𝑥 + 𝑞 or 𝑥 − 2𝑝, where 𝑞 ≠ −2𝑝.
Express 𝑝 in terms of 𝑞. [5]

4. Solve the equation 𝑦 = 3𝑥 3 − 2𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 − 2 and find the range of values of 𝑥 for which 3𝑥 3 − 2𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 < 2. [5]
