● This is an open book final online assessment. You MUST answer the assessment questions on
your own without any assistance from other persons.
● You must submit your answers within the following time frame allowed for this online
assessment:
o The deadline for the submission of your answers is half an hour from the end time of this
online assessment.
● Penalty as below WILL BE IMPOSED on students who submit their answers late as follows:
o The final marks of this online assessment will be reduced by 10 marks for answer scripts
that are submitted within 30 minutes after the deadline for the submission of answers for
this online assessment.
o The final marks of this online assessment will be downgraded to zero (0) mark for any
answer scripts that are submitted after one hour from the end time of this online assessment.
● Extenuation Mitigating Circumstance (EMC) encountered, if any, must be submitted to the
Faculty/Branch/Centre within 48 hours after the date of this online assessment. All EMC
applications must be supported with valid reasons and evidence. The UC EMC Guidelines apply.

(iii) the inverse function 𝑓 −1 (𝑥) if it exists. (3 marks)

c) Using Binomial expansion, prove that, if 𝑥 is small enough for 𝑥 3 and higher powers of 𝑥 to be

d) Ali buys a house by paying instalments of RM4000 per month for 35 years. If the interest rate

b) Let 𝑃(𝑥) = 2𝑥 3 + 5𝑥 2 − 59𝑥 + 28.

(i) Show that (𝑥 − 4) is a factor of the polynomial 𝑃(𝑥). (2 marks)

(ii) By using synthetic division or otherwise, factorize 𝑃(𝑥) completely. (4 marks)

(iii) Find all zeros of the equation 𝑃(𝑥) = 0. (2 marks)

b) Use either inverse matrix or Gaussian elimination method to solve the system of equations:

c) Given that the forces F1 = 4i + 2j, F2 = 2i – 7j and F3 = – 5i + 12j are acting on a point P, find

(i) the resultant force and its magnitude, (3 marks)

(ii) the additional force required in order for the forces to be in equilibrium. (2 marks)

d) Given the complex number 𝑍1 = 8𝑖 and 𝑍2 = −4 + 3𝑖.

(i) Express the given complex numbers in trigonometric form. (2 marks)

a) Convert the polar equation, (cos 𝜃 + sin 𝜃)2 = 𝑟2 into rectangular form. (3 marks)

b) A curve is defined parametrically by 𝑥 = 3 + 6 cos 𝜃 and 𝑦 = 2 sin 𝜃 − 2. By eliminating the


parameter 𝜃, show that the equation of the curve represents an ellipse. Hence find its center,
vertices and foci. (9 marks)

c) (i) Express 2 cos 𝑥 + 5 sin 𝑥 in the form of 𝑅 sin(𝑥 + 𝛼), where 𝛼 is an acute angle. Hence
solve the equation 2 cos 𝑥 + 5 sin 𝑥 = 4, giving all solutions between 00 and 3600.
(8 marks)

(ii) Show that cot 𝜃 − cosec 2𝜃 ≡ cot 2𝜃. (5 marks)
