Weekly meeting agenda: 2 Teaching Lessons

 Which was the best lesson I thought this week? Why?

The best lesson I taught this week was Mathematics lesson based on the topic grouped frequency.
Why it was the best lesson because in the previous lesson the students only collected data and placed
them on the tally and frequency table. And when we come to the topic grouped frequency, it was
interesting by grouping the data into groups of four or five. The students know exactly how to place
their data in group accurately.

 Which lesson was the most challenging one? Why?

The most challenging lesson was the science lesson on the topic nitrogen cycle. Why it was
challenging because these two subjects I taught was not my major or minor course. Because of that
nitrogen cycle was a bit challenging to me as a trainee. The topic has different processes and it needs
more explanation and more time. I have to go through each process in detail by explaining them but I
don’t have enough time.

 What could I have done better?

Despite all the challenges I tried to prepared my lesson to the best of my ability to deliver lesson to
the students. That’s when I was improved in every day lesson and it all depends back to me, whether
to do better in my teaching I must put all my efforts and spent much time in preparing the lesson.
When I did that, I helped myself to flow with my lessons in the subjects that I taught, Mathematics
and Science.

 What have I learned this week that I will put into practice next week?

I have learnt many things this week, which gives me fair ideas to improved next week. I will apply
two things here, first one is about the lesson plan and the second one is the teaching aids. When
planning the lesson in first week both of us, Miss Isaiah and myself we use one lesson plan to teach
different classes. I take grade 9B Mathematics and Science and she also take grade 9A Mathematics
and Science. First week of our TP we have planned to set a lesson on each subject and exchange the
lesson like she will set a plan on Mathematics and I on Science. But next week we should write our
own lesson plan and teach according on what we plan.

Next it was about the teaching aids, first week I only use black board and charts to teach and that I
will try to improve next week. Next week I should prepare their handouts and add it onto what I used
this week so, it should be the black board, charts and handouts.
Weekly meeting agenda: 3 Teaching Methods

 What different teaching methods did I use this week?

This week I used student centered and teacher centered method of teaching throughout.

 Which was most successful? Why?

The teaching methods I used was mentioned above, however, these two methods were successful.
My explanation in terms of delivery was very successful and I believe my lesson were taught in
simple, plain and clear English at the students’ level.

 What other methods could I have used?

I could have used student centered method, so that the student will be responsible for their own
learning and I could be there to assist and facilitate.

 What new methods will I try next week?

In my next week lesson, I will use Student centered method.

 All are to discuss the identified weakness and how each one managed to improve the
weakness.

First day of teaching my explanation was very fast however, the content of the lesson was delivered
and it shows that the students were not really understood the lesson which I taught. That was my
weakness and in my next lesson I will change the pace of my explanation into the medium rate of
speed not very low or very fast.

 Which of my classes is easiest to managed? Why?

I only taught one class which is grade 9B and I think I can manage them because this was only one
class and not two.

 Which of my classes is the hardest to manage? Why?

As I mentioned above already, it was only one class but the first day of my teaching was a bit hard to
control them.

 What forms of poor behaviour do they show?

The students do not have respect to the teachers and also to the school properties like chairs,
classroom, etc.
 How have I dealt with them?

I tried to get their attention and respect by telling them

story when setting the scene to the lesson.

 What are the most successful classroom management methods I use?

 Which ones failed and which ones are working?

 What do I do to promote good behaviour in my classes?
 What classroom management strategies will I try next week?
 Again, discuss what each of you wrote in your journal about classroom management?
 What assessment tasks have I given during teaching practice?

The assessment that I gave was two assignments and a science test based on the topic that I covered.

 Which have been the most successful? Why?

The successful one was the Science test, because most if the students were scored above the average.

 What new assessment methods do I want to try?

The new assessment methods which I will use it next are the quiz and write-up.

 What am I most pleased about on my teaching practice?

Despite all the circumstances I have come across with the students, I am pleased with my SBS and
also other teachers as well because they were willing to helped us trainees in one way or the other
within and outside the school.

 What activities (apart from teaching classes) have I being involved in?

I involved in the excavation of grade nine PD class. We walked from the school to the community
and then to the beach and back to school.

 What have I enjoyed most?

While walking and talking with the students I enjoyed by passing through different communities.

 What are the most important things I have learned on teaching practice?
One thing that I have learnt during my TP was to talked with the students, when they asked questions,
I helped them answering their questions.
