Types of AI – Based on Capabilities
Also called as “Stages of Artificial Intelligence”

1. Artificial Narrow Intelligence(ANI)

2. Artificial General Intelligence(AGI)

3. Artificial Super Intelligence(ASI)

Types of AI – Based on Capabilities( cont.)
1. Artificial Narrow Intelligence(ANI):
Also known as Weak AI, ANI is the stage of Artificial Intelligence
involving machines that can perform only a narrowly defined set of
specific tasks.
At this stage the machines do not posses any thinking ability
They just perform only pre-defined functions
Examples?
Types of AI – Based on Capabilities( cont.)
Examples of Weak AI:
Siri,
Alexa
Self driving cars
Almost all the AI till now fall under the category of weak AI or
Artificial Narrow Intelligence.

2. Arificial General Intelligence (AGI):
Also known as Strong AI
AGI is the stage in the evolution of Artificial intelligence wherein
machines will possess the ability to think and make decisions just like
humans.
Examples?
There are no current existing examples of AI but it is believed that
we will soon be able to create machine that are as smart as human
beings.
Types of AI – Based on Capabilities( cont.)
 Strong AI is considered as threat to human existence by
many scientists.
“The development of full artificial intelligence could spell
the end of human race.” Stephen Hawking

3. Artificial Super Intelligence(ASI):
Artificial Super Intelligence is the stage of AI when the capability
of computers will surpass human beings.
 It is currently seen as hypothetical situation as depicted in
movies and science fiction books.
Currently we do not have machines exist that is capable of
thinking better than a human being.
Types of AI – Based on Capabilities( cont.)
But it is believed that machines are not very far from reaching
this stage taking into consideration or current pace.
It is basically a robot that is much smarter than humans
