This book is dedicated to Almighty God! For his grace and mercy upon our life
toward ensuring that this book sees the light of the day.

PREFACE

This book is specifically designed to meet the Nigeria education research and
development council (NERDC) syllabus. The book contains agricultural science
and home economics syllabus into pre-vocational studies.

This book treats each topic of the syllabus in questions and answers to makes it
possible for the student to understand the topic and aids progressive evaluation
of each topic.

Simple language was used to allow the student to comprehend the topics treated
and also contain a lot of diagram that will assist student in the understanding of
the subject.

I strongly believe that this book will be a good learning material to the student
and teachers in the understanding of this new subject.

ANSWER

Agriculture is the systematic art and science of cultivating the land to produce
crop and rearing of livestock for human consumption.

Two type of agriculture

Subsistence agriculture: is the cultivation of few stands of the crops and rising
and of a number of animals by the family for his own consumption.
Commercial agriculture: this is the production of crops and animals, large
enough to cover both family consumption and by means of selling the crop in
large scale e.g. cocoa, cotton, kola nuts coffee and rubber

Importance of agriculture

Source of foreign exchange earning
