The L2 learners may feel more fluent singing along to song lyrics than they do speaking an

L2, so this Gbuilds confidence. Also, a range of colloquial language can easily be introduced
through songs. Finally, most lyrics need to be interpreted, and regular practice of this may
improve prediction and comprehension skills. (Hashemian, 2014)
Therefore, we can say the foremost function of songs is to provide relaxation and
recreation. When people are tired, it is quite common that they will sit back and
listen to a piece of music or they may hang out with friends to sing in Karaoke,
clubs or bars. Music has the power to soothe people’s emotions, refresh their minds and
to unlock their creativity. (Izzah & Sukrisno, 2017)
In Indonesia, English is not considered a second language, but English is a foreign
language. Indonesian English has been a compulsory subject to be taught from junior
high school to university. English is subject to the National Examination for Junior
High School and Senior High School, and to the University, English is subject to the
Non-English Language Education Program. This proves that it is very important for
students to master English. (Kusuma Dewi & Sukarni, 2020)

There are many techniques that can be used to improve the pronunciation. In this research,
the researcher used listening to English songs. Children do not learn the rules of spoken
language by explicit instruction, but they copy what they hear. Most people enjoy singing
songs. From the songs many people can learn many things such as culture, new words, and
how to pronounce words. Based on the reasons above, the researcher believes that songs can
be used as an alternative way in the language learning. The reason why the researcher chose
songs as media is because songs could make the atmosphere in class become interesting. In
the class, the students can sing together. (Jessica et al., 2015)

When the teacher will apply songs in her/ his teaching learning process, she /he should know
what kind of song she would bring into the class. This is the problem if the teacher wants to
use songs to her class. (Gushendra, 2017)
