Queueing Models of Systems with Non-Homogeneous Customers and their

Applications in Computer Science
ABSTRACT
The paper discusses a newer aspect of queuing theory focused on systems with non-
homogeneous customers, notably those with random volume. It addresses challenges in
traditional queuing models and presents principles, performance metrics, and issues in this new
theory. The classification of models and examples are provided, including systems with limited
buffer space and varying customer volumes. An analog of Little's formula is presented, showing
the correlation between the mean total volume of customers and the mixed moment of customer
volume and service time. This formula is crucial for understanding system performance. The
analysis distinguishes between loss probabilities and explores loss characteristics, highlighting
the impact of customer volume on system performance. Various equations and models are
presented to illustrate these concepts. The text discusses queuing models of systems with non-
homogeneous customers and their applications in computer science. It introduces a new direction
in queuing theory focusing on systems with non-homogeneous customers, analyzing basic
principles, performance parameters, and challenges. It presents classifications of models and
provides simple examples, discussing loss characteristics and specific problems. Various queuing
models are discussed, including M/M/1/∞ systems and models with random volume and service
time. Different scenarios are analyzed, such as when service time is proportional to customer
volume.

Methods for estimating loss characteristics in queuing systems with random volume customers
are discussed. This includes calculating loss probabilities and considering the ratio of different
loss characteristics.
