C REV2 AUTOMOBILE USES

1. SCOPE
This standard specifies hot-dip galvannealed steel sheets and strip with equal thickness coating on
both sides intended for automobile structures (hereinafter referred to as steel sheets and strip). The
special specification agreed with a particular manufacturer shall be satisfied in addition to the contents
of this standard.

2. TERMINOLOGY
For the terminology used in this standard, the definitions in JIS G 0202 [Glossary of terms used in
iron and steel (testing)] and JIS G 0203 [Glossary of terms used in iron and steel (products and
quality)], and the following, shall apply.
Hot-dip galvannealing : A coating formed of zinc and iron alloy throughout the layer, consisted
mainly of 1 phase (iron contents 8.0 to 13.0 %).
Yield point : Refers to upper yield point.

3. STEEL TYPE CODE AND DRAWING INDICATION

3.1 Steel Type Code
The steel sheets and strip shall consist of twenty-two types in total, including six types with hot rolled
substrate, and sixteen types with cold rolled substrate, and the designation of codes shall conform to
Table 1.

Therefore, when grade A or B is designated, grade C is automatically applied in Japan.
3.2 Drawing Indication Method
Steel type code in Table 1 and coating mass designation in Table 2 shall be indicated in the
MATERIAL column on drawings when this standard applies. For details, conform to HES A 3055
(DRAWING INDICATION METHOD FOR STEEL SHEET MATERIALS).

4. COATING MASS
4.1 Coating Mass Designation of Hot Dipping and the Minimum and Maximum Coating Mass

Coating mass designation of hot dipping and the minimum and maximum coating mass on one
surface shall conform to Table 2.

2. If coating mass other than 45/45 is selected, coordination with the material research section of
Honda R&D shall be required due to lack of basic performance data.
4.2 Indication of Mass of Hot-dip Coating
Mass of hot-dip coating shall be tested according to Section 17.2, and each surface shall be indicated
in the following manner.
1) Hot-dip coating of steel sheets: "Hot-dip coating mass designation for top surface" / "Hot-dip
coating mass designation for bottom surface" of the steel sheets for shipment (Example: 45/45)
2) Hot-dip coating of strip: "Hot-dip coating mass designation for outside surface" / "Hot-dip
coating mass designation for inside surface" of strip (Example 60/60)

5. SURFACE SPECIFICATIONS
Surface specifications of steel sheets and strip shall be specified by the mean surface roughness, and
their designations shall be as shown in Table 3.
Application surface of large sheets for exterior parts is the top surface (outside surface), as a rule, and
a coordination is necessary among the parties concerned for application of bottom surface (inside
surface.) Steel sheets and strips shall be free from detrimental defects affecting normal usage.
However, for steel strip, as there is generally no chance to remove the area including defects, handling
of some areas not completely normal shall be left to the agreement among the parties concerned as
well as the establishment of criteria for detrimental defects.

Surface specification
Surface finish class Surface roughness
code
Dull finish SD 0.5 < Ra < 2.0 (reference value)

Remarks:
1. Surface roughness is specified by mean surface roughness Ra.
2. Surface roughness specification for surface specification designation SD is not provided. Instead,
a commonly used surface roughness control range is given as reference value.
3. Surface specification designation G shall apply to surfaces controlled to attain appearance
properties or distinctness of gloss on coating such as gloss, image clarity, etc., after coating.

6. CHEMICAL CONVERSION TREATMENTS

Chemical conversion treatment will, as a rule, not be provided on steel sheets and strip. Application of
other treatment is subject to agreement among the parties concerned.

9.2 Aging Properties

Aging properties specified for steel sheets and strip of cold rolled substrate shall be non-aging (*3) or
retard aging (*4) as shown in Table 10. Manufacture date, which is the starting point of the period of
non-aging or retard aging, should be marked in a label or in other arrangement, so that it is
recognizable for the users as well. The steel sheets and strip that are not specified for aging properties
may be subject to aging in the mechanical properties or to the occurrence of stretcher strain, after
manufacturing, even under storage at room temperature. So the soonest possible use after manufacture
is desired.
Notes:
(*3) Non-aging means that the specified steel sheets and strip meet the requirements for tensile
strength, yield point or proof stress, elongation, mean plastic strain ratio in Table 9, and will have no
occurrence of stretcher strain, for 12 months after manufacturing.
(*4) Retard aging means that the specified steel sheets and strip have no occurrence of stretcher
strain for at least 3 months after manufacturing, under storage at room temperature.
Manufacturer and user should make mutual effort that the material be used within such time period.

10. INDICATION OF DIMENSIONS

Dimensions of steel sheets and strip shall be indicated as follows.
1) Dimensions of steel sheet shall be indicated by thickness, width and length in millimeters.
2) Dimensions of steel strip shall be indicated by thickness and width in millimeters. When strip
mass is specified with calculated mass, the length shall be given in meters.
3) Nominal thickness refers to the substrate thickness before coating.

12. DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCE

12.1 Thickness Tolerance
Thickness tolerance shall be as follows.
1) Thickness tolerance shall apply to the sum of the nominal thickness and equivalent coating
thickness of respective surface in Table 12.

Remarks: When applying to Tables 13 through 17, add the equivalent coating thickness of each
respective surface to the nominal thickness.

2) Thickness tolerance shall be Tolerance A, Tolerance B, and Tolerance C when hot rolled substrate
is used; and Tolerance A and Tolerance B when cold rolled substrate is used, as shown in Tables 13
through 17.
3) Thickness of steel sheets and strip shall be measured at any point equal to or greater than 25 mm
from the edge.
