and sign. This can be signed over a period of time, as each element is deemed satisfactory. To
submit, scan (or photograph) the original signed document and upload into the appropriate
area of the unit on your course website. You must keep the original copy of the document on
file and submit it should that be requested.

n What is competency?
The broad concept of industry competency concerns the ability to perform particular tasks
and duties to the standard of performance expected in the workplace. Competency requires
the application of specified skills, knowledge and attitudes relevant to effective participation
in an industry, industry sector or enterprise.
Competency covers all aspects of workplace performance and involves performing individual
tasks; managing a range of different tasks; responding to contingencies or breakdowns; and,
dealing with the responsibilities of the workplace, including working with others. Workplace
competency requires the ability to apply relevant skills, knowledge and attitudes consistently
over time and in the required workplace situations and environments.

Instructions to Student

actions must be supervised and observed by your Mentor a minimum of three times and
should be performed in a confident and efficient manner.

Read all the sections of the Training Record to ensure you understand what is required of the
Student. Each activity must be performed on at least three different days, in a satisfactory
manner and observed by you. Please sign and date each individual activity on the three
separate days you observed satisfactory performance.

The mentor and student should work together to ensure the following practical skills are
developed. The required skills must be demonstrated to a satisfactory standard on at least
THREE separate days. The mentor and student should then sign the accompanying third party
report which must be submitted before the completion of the unit.

The Training Record should not be signed unless the mentor is satisfied that the
student has reached the required standards.
