The Unix support team is continually pushing the boundaries to ensure that all areas of the business are
fully supported. We are a team that support, create, develop and improve and are proud to be a key area
responsible for the management of data resources in Santander.

The Opportunity

If you are looking to move your career ahead within Unix/Linux Administration then Santander UK Unix
team could be the choice for you.
Your role will be Unix administration & support in a complex high availability environment, including
implementation, production support, performance monitoring and tuning, disaster recovery, upgrades,
patching and data migration.

The Unix Administrators liaise with Santander Technology and Santander Engineering UK colleagues to
support all aspects of the Unix infrastructure across the bank. We strive to use new Unix tools and features
and automate tasks wherever possible.

What we’re looking for

Unix/Linux system administrators who specialize in installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux-based
servers. The successful candidate must have a strong background in BAU production support ideally for a
faced paced, large enterprise company. They must have ability to problem-solve, troubleshoot, effectively
deal with incidents and be able to work as part of a team as well as independently.

Exadata Skills

 Configuration of remote syslog services in Exadata environments


 Configuring / hardening of systems in the Exadata environment
 Understanding of ASR
 Experience of ASR implementation and configuration
 Administration experience of ASR
 Good understanding of management for Exadata through ILOM
 Exposure to setting up Oracle operator access control configuration
 Knowledge of ACFS filesystems

Other Skills Required


 Extensive knowledge and understanding of Redhat Linux on both a physical and virtual platform
 Experience with deploying, configuring and supporting Linux in a VMware environment
 Experience with automation tools (Ansible) and patching using Redhat Satellite
 Providing multiple levels of support to help resolve incidents and problem resolution
 Experienced in Problem tracking, Incident management and Change Management processes
 Experience working in a fast pace, pressured environment for large enterprise companies.
 Ability to manage your own time and workload independently and as a member of the team
 Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts, both verbally and in writing
 Must be self-motivated, independent and resourceful

Key Responsibilities

 Install and Configure Linux Servers in a physical and virtualised environment


 Provide Technical Support and Guidance
 Perform System Maintenance
 Monitor System Performance
 Provide fast and effective BAU support for incidents and requests.
 Perform problem identification and root cause analysis

Additional Requirements
 Participation in the On Call Rota (typically once every couple of months)
 Be available to support the business for planned overtime and overnight changes
 Occasionally cover scheduled overnight or weekend patching for Monthly patching schedule and
emergency Security Vulnerabilities

Experience Expected
 Minimum of 5 Years Oracle Exadata System Administration In Financial Services
 Minimum of 5 Years Linux System Administration including Scripting, OS Patching & Updates,
Migrations, Tuning and Deployment and Virtualisation
 Minimum of 2 Years Oracle Exadata Cloud @ Customer Experience in Financial Services
