(Marks : 1)
Solution : Since the point lies on the y-axis, its x- coordinate is 0.
Also, the point is at a distance of 5 units in the negative direction of y-axis, therfore the required point is (0,

Write down the co-ordinates of each of points P, Q, R, and T as shown in the following figure:

(Marks : 5)
Solution :

Draw perpendicular PL, QM, RN and SU on x-axis.

(i) For point P, we observe that:
The distance of P from y-axis = OL = 5 units
The distance of P from x-axis = PL = 2 units
Since, P is in the first quadrant. So, co-ordinates of P are (5, 2) (1.5 marks)

(ii) For point Q. we observe that:

The distance of Q from y-axis = OM = 3 units
The distance of Q from x-axis = QM = 6 units
Since, Q lies in the second quadrant in which abscissa of every point is negative and ordinate is positive.
So, the co-ordinates of Q are (-3, 4) (1.5 marks)

(iii) For point R, we observe that:

The distance of R from y-axis = ON = 6 units
The distance of R from x-axis = RN = 6 units
Clearly, R lies in the third quadrant in which abscissa and ordinate of every point are both negative.
Thus, the co-ordinates of R are (-6, -6) (1.5 marks)

(iv) T=(7,0) (1/2 mark)
