COLD LIQUID DIET

Work Exercise No. 1. Objectives or Aims of the Diet

a. To provide only cold liquids, which are free of irritants or acid properties.
b. To administer food at a proper route.
c. To be able to meet the nutritional requirements of the patient.
d. To rest the organ included
e. To minimize pain in oral cavity
f. To promote rapid wound healing

Work Exercise No. 2. Characteristics of the Diet

Cold liquid diet or also known as Tonsil diet is used commonly for tonsillectomy and
adenoidectomy, post-operation. This must obviously cold, particles are thin and free from
irritants to lessen discomfort of the patient upon feeding.

Work Exercise No. 3. Indication for Use of the Diet

This diet is used following a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A). It is also used when only
fluids or soothing foods in liquid form are tolerated. Also, consult a nutritionist or a doctor before
initiating this diet. The cold liquid diet is not nutritionally adequate. Hence, you should not risk
your health without proper medical advice.

Intervals must be 6-8 times a day q2h-q4h through oral administration.
