German psychologist Erik Erikson described human development as going through eight stages of life from
infancy (birth–18 months) to (1) ____________ (65–death). In the first stage, babies gain a sense of trust
towards the person or people looking after them. If a child does not receive this nurturing, he or she may
have issues trusting others in the future. Erikson labelled the next stage as ‘early

develop a sense of independence. However, children can be very (3) ____________ at this stage and
