Criminality in American Society

Criminality in American is very ironic. A lot of structure or building in

America that metaphor to liberty or free. But the deeper meaning behind the

structure, which have a lot of history that we don’t even know. We all know that

liberty statue represent the freedom, but the freedom also builds on a lot of dead.

So criminality in American society is gradually become the hidden meaning of

the American culture. Such as the movie we watched this Monday, The Godfather,

which have a lot symbols and representation on the American criminality in

American society.

The Godfather movie is a good reflection of American criminality society. We

can see that gangster was holding a lot of power in America or Italy and run by

the family gangster. The Godfather Don Vito Corleone is show a great power on

the community, everyone is very respect the “Godfather”. There is a famous quote

in the movie. “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse” (The Godtfather).

This sentence actually means the offer being done as I say or I kill you. You can

the criminality of the American society, gangster has a lot of power to run a town

or control what they want. Another scene represent the criminality is that

Michael kill rival gangster Sollozzo and police captain. Even police captain

involve on drug dealer, which make the city’s safety is questionable. The

American society seem like doesn’t protect well by the police in that time. Even
Michael kill the captain, all the new paper report on police captain has

relationship with drug dealer. So there is another point that gangster family is

able to control the American society. The society we are living right now, there is

a significant influence by the gangster that The Godfather movie try to show us.

I think that gangster might also influence by the gangster family by 1972. We

know that 1972 there is no black gangster which make a question to how the

gangster become what it is right now. There is one moment that Michael tell Pop

that “I’m with you”. Which make me think that when someone start hurting your

family you have to stand out. In the modern gangster, they are not call themselves

as family or brothers instead of gangster. When there is somebody tries to hurt

your family, you have to stand out to kill the treats. Maybe 1970’s gangster is

really influenced on gangster culture. In the movie, there is a ironic quotes ”It’s

business, not personal”, this statement is really show that the gangster were very

important in 1970s. They refer to themselves as businessmen. They do this in

part to hide from the public the violent reality of what they do. But even though

they are gangster, there is a lot of people still ask the Godfather did their favors,

we can see how the community or the people are really trust on the godfather.

The Godfather movie has so many deeper meaning and reality reflection.

Everyone has some way to see himself or herself as in the movie. Even I can feel

some way to relate to the movie. Criminality is affecting our society from the 100

years ago; there is a lot way we also affect by the criminality. The Godfather show

us the how gangster was affecting the society and how gangster culture was.
