The Ori is the head. But in Ifa Spirituality it is more than that. It is
the part of you that is connected to the spiritual source. The Ori
holds the blueprint for your life including your soul purpose,
lessons, gifts, etc. It is important that you be consciously in
alignment with your Ori so that you can live your best life.

Otura Ogbe speaks of a person who was not receiving blessings in


their life. They were advised to pay attention to their Ori and how
they should greet their Ori with both hands every morning. They
did and began to receive blessings. Now many Ifa devotees find it
useful to pay homage to our Ori very morning to start our day.
This is personal ritual that can be done to support that. This can be
done with a bowl of water in front of your shrine or in the shower if
pressed for time. It involves calling on your Ori to guide you and is
a spiritual purification of the Ori and nine openings of the head.
Ogunda Iwori teaches us that there are nine openings through
which disease enters the body; seven of which are in the head.

The other two are the openings where we urinate and defecate.
For women, of course, there is the 10th opening of the vagina.
The ritual involves washing each area as well as the feet which are
responsible for the path we walk.

Steps for Morning Ritual


1. Wash your hands and say:
My life is in the hands of Ori: Ori wash me clean and assist me with carrying my
load.
2. Wash your head or sprinkle water on your head with three fingers of
Right Hand moving from forehead to the back of your head.
Recite Ori guides my destiny. Ori guide me to goodness and success.
3. Wash your ears and say:
Ori let me be able to listen well and hear truth.
4. Wash your face/ eyes while saying:
May my face be an example of coolness; may my eyes have clear vision to see the
difference between truth and lies.
5. Wash your nose / nostrils and say:
May I receive inspiration with each breath of life.
6. Washing mouth, rinse your mouth, or brush your teeth and say:
May all things that go into and come out of my mouth be clean.
7. Washing your anus and say:
May I release what doesn’t serve my highest good.
7. For reproductive parts, say
may my creative works always bear fruit.
