RATIONALE FOR MAINTAINING “LEARNING ARTICULATION PORTFOLIO”

“Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself,

to become what he potentially is.
The most important product of his effort is his own personality.”
-Erich Fromm

Dear Students,

In this fast-paced world, one finds it difficult to spare time to stop and reflect on various life
events. When this happens, it is possible that one feels that all the efforts had gone in the wrong
direction and one is still far away from his or her goal. The art of achieving goal lies in
understanding our self, building on our strengths and overcoming weaknesses. This facilitates
the process of self-awareness, self-acceptance and progression towards self-reform- a key to
Happiness. Through experiential training, Behavioural Science Course would facilitate
movement towards self-reform and develop better interpersonal skills to achieve personal and
professional success.

The LAP is an integral part of the Behavioural Science Course. It is a tool for introspection,
self-exploration and self-governance. It involves an initiative to reflect on the discussions and
activities during the various workshops of Behavioural Science Courses. It also involves writing
down personal learning during class exercises and discussions.

Unleashing Self
(Entry Level)

I describe myself as someone who always wants to help others and keeps the well-being of the people

around her before her own. I want to help others and motivate them to work hard in their lives.

If I could do anything for work, no matter the skills I do or don’t have, it would be to create a platform

where people can showcase their talent without a fear of judgement.

If money didn’t matter, I would spend most of my time doing some travelling around the world.

But considering present situations I aspire to become .I would like to pursue my masters and then join an

MNC in another country.

My perfect day starts with a cup of black coffee and ends with a heavy dinner consisting of some non-

vegetarian dish.

I could be happier today if I didn’t care about what people thought about me in the past.

Something I’ve wanted to change in my life is putting a lot of pressure on myself which ultimately affects

my mental health.

The last training, I participated in was__NA__.

A habit I failed to remove from my life is procrastinating_.

One skill that I always wanted to learn is, _a form of martial arts and swimming.

Writing my own song is something that I always wish to do, but don’t have time.

My greatest strengths are honesty, kindness.

And I will use it this year to_be honest with myself and not be to hard on myself.

I draw most energy by listening to music, recording covers of songs, learning a new language. Since the

past 1 year I have been very much invested in learning the Korean language and their culture.

I overcame my last fear by talking to and interacting with more people.

A person I admire most are my parents because _I know that they are always going to be there for me

whether I am at my lowest or highest.

A book that inspired me the most is anything by Ruskin Bond, because _he came up with stories from the

simplest aspects of life. It made me realize how simple life is and how much we complicate it.

Problem-solving style – Interpretation

Problem-solving style, based on the work of Carl Jung, a noted psychologist, is one measure representing
social traits. It reflects the way a person goes about gathering and evaluating information in solving
problems and making decisions.

 Information gathering involves getting and organizing data for use. Styles of information
gathering vary from sensation to intuitive.

o Sensation-type individuals prefer routine and order and emphasize well-defined details in
gathering information; they would rather work with known facts than look for
possibilities.
o By contrast, intuitive- type individuals prefer the “big picture.” They like solving new
problems, dislike routine, and would rather look for possibilities than work with facts.

 The second component of problem solving, evaluation, involves making judgments about how to
deal with information once it has been collected. Styles of information evaluation vary from an
emphasis on feeling to an emphasis on thinking.
o Feeling-type individuals are oriented toward conformity and try to accommodate
themselves to other people. They try to avoid problems that may result in disagreements.
LEARNING ARTICULATION PORTFOLIO
BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE COURSE

o Thinking-type individuals use reason and intellect to deal with problems and downplay
emotions.

PERSONAL LEARNING FROM THE ACTIVITY:

1. What is your style?

According to the results, my style is Thinking-type and Intuition-
type

2. How does this affect your perception?

I am glad to know that I am someone who uses reason and intellect
to deal with problems rather than passing a judgement based on the
opinion of the majority. I am also satisfied with how I find my own
way of doing this rather than following a pattern.

3. Are they any bias it led to?

I think this happened because I also try to find reasons behind what
is happening and why it is happening.

4. How will you overcome it?

I will overcome it by not complicating things too much because I
tend to think about the outcome of my actions a lot.

The Alligator River Story

There lived a woman named Abigail who was in love with a man named
Gregory. Gregory lived on the shore of a river. Abigail lived on the
opposite shore of the same river. The river that separated the two
lovers was teeming with dangerous alligators.
Abigail wanted to cross the river to be with Gregory. Unfortunately, the bridge
had been washed out by a heavy flood the previous week. So she went to
ask Sinbad, a riverboat captain, to take her across. He said he would be glad
to if she would consent to go to bed with him prior to the voyage. She
promptly refused and went to a friend named Ivan to explain her plight. Ivan
did not want to get involved at all in the situation.
Abigail felt her only alternative was to accept Sinbad’s terms. Sinbad fulfilled
his promise to Abigail and delivered her into the arms of Gregory. When
Abigail told Gregory about her amorous escapade in order to cross the river,
Gregory cast her aside with disdain. Heartsick and rejected, Abigail turned to
Slug with her tail of woe. Slug, feeling compassion for Abigail, sought out
Gregory and beat him brutally. Abigail was overjoyed at the sight of Gregory
getting his due. As the sun set on the horizon, people heard Abigail laughing
at Gregory.

realistic economic attitude and not
a moral philosophy
5 Business ethics is a concept for
public relations only
6 Competitiveness and profitability
are important values
7 Conditions for a free economy will
best serve the needs of society.
8 As a consumer, when making an
auto insurance claim, I try to get as
much as possible regardless of the
extent of the damage
9 While shopping at the supermarket,
it is appropriate to switch price tags
on packages
10 As an employee, I can take home
office supplies; it doesn’t hurt
anyone
11 I view sick days as vacation days I
deserve
12 Employees wages should be
determined according to the laws of
supply and demand
13 The business world has its own
rules
14 A good businessman is a successful
businessman
15 Limiting competition can only hurt
society and actually violates basic
natural laws

How can we overcome ethical dilemmas? Explain

We can rank the issue as very important, little important, not important, and then solve the
problem. We can also talk to people whom we trust regarding such a dilemma. Think about
the long-term consequences of my decision.

MAPPING MY LEARNING JOURNEY

(At the end of the course- semester wise)

I) Behavioral Science Course has helped me:

It helped me understand myself better. After interacting with my fellow classmates, I found out
that I was not the only one facing certain issues. Many people my age was dealing with the same
stress in life. I am grateful for this course as it has helped me relax and spend some time thinking
about myself.

II) Behavioral Skills that I inculcated in my Personality:

I will be interacting with more people from now on open myself to new ideas. I will also work
on being more optimistic.

III) Key learning (based on class activities, role plays, discussions, analysis etc.):

We should always work toward building ourselves up, focusing on our physical as well as
mental health is very important. I also got to interact with some of my classmates with whom I
hadn’t even spoken with before.

IV) My Difficulties & Confusions in learning & application of behavioral skills

I have always faced problems with interacting with new people. I always wonder what the
other person might think about me and that really restricts me from being who I am.
V) What did I do well (Both inside & outside the class):
I focused on improving myself and facing my problems. I started interacting with new people
also.

VI) Shortcomings I perceived about myself:

I realized that sometimes I really underestimate myself and couldn’t trust myself.

VII) How my strengths are restricted by my shortcomings:

Leadership, speaking up in class, all of these aspects get restricted because of my under
confidence.

VIII) My initiatives to overcome such shortcomings:

I have made some new friends who give me the confidence that I need along with the faith I
require.
