0 - DESCRIPTION:
The BA-030E is an automatic attachment for spreader, designed for handling oversized
containers, flat racks and platforms. TEC’s model is an universal frame that can be picked up by
any ISO Spreader with no need of any extra modification of it.

Twistlocks are locked/unlocked automatically thanks to two electrical linear actuator (installed
inside of each side) whose installation is in compliance with every safety standard.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

• The opening / closing movement from 20’ to 40’ (optional 45’) and 40’ to 20’ of the BA-030ET
depends on the main spreader, which has to be allowed to be opened and closed while
lifting a load.
• The Main Spreader has to apply a minimum force of 4500N to assure the correct opening /
closing movements of the BA-030E.
• This OHF is designed to be used with 20ft, 40ft and 45ft ISO Flat racks or platforms and not
ready for out of size or damaged Flat racks or platforms.

Tare: Check CE identification plate.

Emissions: Non applicable / Fully electric.
Power: Autonomous 24VDC fed by two gel 110Ah batteries.
Charging installation: Photovoltaic installation + battery charger.
Noise level: Up to 116dB(A) at 1m.

2.2 – SAFETY
There are both mechanical and electronic devices designed to avoid accidental locking/unlocking
movements of the twistlocks, as well as sound and light signaling devices to indicate every status of
the machine.

2.2.1 – ELECTRONIC SAFETY DEVICES

BA-030E has got twelve/sixteen inductive sensors which control, at all times, the position of both
twistlocks and landing pins.
BA-030E control module allows to lock/unlock the twistlocks as long as all four/eight of them are
completely introduced into the ISO-Corners and the OHF is properly seated on the container.
Otherwise it will be impossible to change the position of the cones.
All four twistlocks must be at the same position too, if not, the PLC will not allow any movement

BATTERIES ARE STILL BEING RECHARGED BY THE

SOLAR PANELS AND THE BA-030E IS READY TO BE USED AGAIN.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

5 – INSTALLATION DISCONNECTION – CHARGING MODE

When it is expected a long time with no use, we recommend to disconnect the circuit breaker.
Doing so, the whole installation (sensors, PLC, screen, etc.) will be disconnected from the
batteries (assuring then no consumption at all) but SOLAR PANELS WILL KEEP CHARGING
THE BATTERIES.

WHEN CIRCUIT BREAKER IS DISCONNECTED, BATTERIES ARE STILL BEING

CHARGED BY SOLAR PANELS INSTALLATION

6 – COMPLETE DISCONNECTION
If it is necessary to remove the whole power feeding (for example, to disconnect the batteries),
please follow these steps according to this sequence:
1 – Disconnect the consumer from the charge regulator by disconnecting the circuit breaker.
2 – Disconnect the solar panels by pulling down the Q1 switch (installed inside the cabinet of
the power side).
3 – Disconnect the batteries by pulling the red connector (inside the batteries side).
REVERSE ORDER APPLIES WHEN CONNECTING BACK!

1 3
2

CAUTION
PLEASE OBSERVE THAT THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT TO 12V/24V
SYSTEMS DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY IF THIS SEQUENCE ORDER IS NOT FOLLOWED. AN
IMPROPER SEQUENCE ORDER CAN DAMAGE THE BATTERY!
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

2.4 – ALTERNATIVE SYSTEM START

There are two different ways to start the OHF alternatively:
- 1.- By placing a metal piece close to the starting-up sensor until the OHF starts (beeps +
lights on)
- 2.- By pressing the green button (installed abovethe information screen) until the OHF starts
(beep + lights on)-

REMEMBER
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO START THE MACHINE MANUALLY, AS THE
SYSTEM STARTS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN TWISTLOCKS OF THE MAIN SPREADER GET MOVED TO
LOCKED POSITION. THOSE ALTERNATIVE WAYS ARE AIMED FOR MAINTENANCE AND CHECKING
PURPOSES.

REMEMBER
AS A DEFAULT SET-UP, THE BA-030E TURNS OFF AUTOMATICALLY IF THE
DRIVING DEVICE IS IN UNLOCK POSITION FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES.

BEAR IN MIND THAT, FOR A CORRECT PERFORMANCE:

1- The system must be properly powered (batteries must be connected).
2- The circuit breaker must be connected too.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

2.5 – EMERGENCY MANUAL DRIVE

ATENCIÓN
REMEMBER THAT WHICHEVER THE WAY THAT HAS BEEN CHOSEN, ALL FOUR LANDING PINS MUST BE
COMPLETELY INTRODUCED INTO BA-030E LEGS. OTHERWISE, IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO CARRY OUT
ANY CHANGE IN THE POSITION OF THE TWISTLOCKS.

2.5.1 – ELECTRONIC OPERATION

It is possible to change the position of the BA-030E’s twistlocks from the Screen installed on the
Driving Side. It is a very useful tool when it is necessary to move the twistlocks for some kind of
failure in the driving module or for maintenance/checking purposes.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT ALL FOUR TWISTLOCKS ARE EITHER DETECTED OR AT THE SAME
POSITION TO LOCK/UNLOCK THEM BY USING THE INFORMATION SCREEN.

2.5.2 – MECHANIC OPERATION

In case of power shutdown, it is possible to open/close the twistlocks mechanically by applying a
torque to the linear actuator.

- First of all, make sure that the circuit breaker is disconnected.

- The cover over the Allen Key socket must be unscrewed before the Allen Key can be inserted
and the Hand Crank operated.
- Hand Crank Torque: Max. 16Nm.
- If the actuator is operated as a Hand Crank, it must be operated by hand or carefully by
machine. Otherwise there is a potential risk of overloading and hereby damage actuator.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

2.6 – INFORMATION SCREEN

There is a screen installed on the Driving Side of the BA-030E.

3.3 – SOLAR PANELS

For an optimal battery charge, it is recommendable to keep the surface of the panels as much
clean as possible. Use a wet cloth only.
Dirt can reduce recharge power drastically.

A CLEAN PANEL IS THREE TIMES MORE

POWERFUL!
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

3.4 – ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION – MAIN COMPONENTS

There is no need of a specific preventive maintenance for the electrical installation.
The batteries get charged thanks to the electrical power input supplied by the solar panels. In any
case, as an optional equipment, the BA-030E can be equipped with a standard battery charger. It
is very useful since the batteries can be charged whichever the weather conditions are.
The Spreader is supplied together with all the necessary documentation about the whole electrical
installation (wiring diagrams, product data-sheets, bill of materials, components marks, etc.)

4.1.1 – STARTUP MODULE EXAMINATION

If the BA-030E does not start the system startup protocol, please follow the next steps:

1 – CHECK THE GENERAL ELECTRIC INSTALLATION:

a – Is the light symbol at the first page of charge controller
(placed in ARMSLP) on? If not, the system is not loaded. To
reconnected it, push the right button of the charge controller
and the light symbol must be appeared again.
b – Is the circuit breaker in the correct position?
c – Make sure that the batteries are well connected and in
the correct position.
d – Check all the connections.
SOLVED?
YES NO

2 – CHECK THE SENSOR OF THE DRIVING MODULE

Once the general electrical installation has been carefully checked (with no problems) the next
parts to inspect are the sensors, PLC and K1 contactor.
a – Check that the upper sensor of the driving module is well connected.
b – Check that the upper sensor DETECTS correctly. Approach some metal piece (like a
screwdriver) to the detecting area. If the sensor works properly an ORANGE light on the
sensor must shine. If not, it means that there is a problem with the power input of the sensor.
Please check CONTACTOR K1 (installed inside the electrical cabinet of the Power Side). If
this contactor works well, there must be a failure in the power input cable and/or the sensor
itself.
Once the sensor detects the “screwdriver” the system must turn up. If not, there is some
problem in the PLC (see 4.2) module or in the cable connection between inductive output and
PLC input.
If the system turns up properly (by using the “screwdriver”) it means that the sensor was
working well but it was not able to detect the driving device. Please adjust the distance
between sensor and driving device.

Sensing range = 8mm

BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

4.1.2 – LANDING PIN MECHANISM EXAMINATION

If some of the landing pins can not get introduced into BA-030E legs,
please proceed to check them as follows:
a – Make sure that the pin has not been bent. In that case, REPLACE IT.
b – Clean landing pin housing and check that the pin is not stuck in some
of the guide-holes.
c – Check that the landing pin spring is in good conditions.

4.1.3 – WRONG PERFORMANCE OF LANDING PIN SENSOR AND CONTROL MODULES

If all amber lights are off and ALL 4 (or 8) LANDING PINS are completely introduced, please
examine the complete installation as follows:

1 – CHECK THE STATUS OF ALL LANDING PINS

a – Are all inductive sensors detecting the pin?
Please, go to “ PLC inputs information page” of
the screen. This page shows information about
the INPUTS that the PLC is receiving. Find out S4

the sensor with problems (the one which is not

yellow on the screen).
b – Make sure that the sensor is detecting
properly. An orange light on its body must shine. If
not, please review and tighten all the connections. Examples of a correct and incorrect status
of sensor S4.
c – If the light is still not shining, please approach
a metal piece, like a screwdriver, to the detecting
area in order to test the correct performance of
the sensor. If it doesn’t work, it means that there
might be a problem with the power input cable
and/or with the sensor. In case of double pin
model, check both sensors a the same time.
Sensing range = 4mm
d – If the light of the sensor turns up when the
screwdriver is approached, it means that the
inductive sensor works properly but it was not
able to detect the landing pin. Adjust the distance.
e – If the sensor works well but the screen is still
not showing a correct input, it means that there is
a failure in the PLC (see 4.2) and/or in the cable
that connects output inductive sensor to PLC.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

4.1.4 – FALSE OUTPUT OF LANDING PIN INDUCTIVE SENSOR

If the amber lights of the BA-030E are on and some of the landing pins are not properly
introduced, please proceed as follows:
a – CLEAN UP the detecting area of the inductive sensor that is sending the “false signal” to
the PLC in order to erase any metallic particle that could make the sensor detect something
“false”.
b – Once the sensor has been cleaned up, the amber lights of the BA-030E must turn off. If
not, it means that the PLC gets freeze and it is necessary a system reboot (see 4.2).
c – If the problem persists, replace the sensor.

4.1.5 – ERROR IN TWISTLOCK POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM

If all RED or GREEN lights are off, there might be a problem in the twistlock position
detection system. Please, proceed as follows:
a – Go to PAGE 2 of the information screen and identify the sensor whose signal is not being
well received.

b – Go to the sensor that has the problem and check if its

orange light is shining. If it is shining, there is a problem
either with the output cable or with the PLC input
connection (see 4.2).
c – If it is not shining, please approach a metal piece like a
S6
screwdriver to the detecting area of the sensor.
d - If the orange light turns ON, it means that the position of
the sensor was not well regulated. Please adjust. Check
that the information on the screen has been updated and
the lights of the spreader turn on.
e – If the light does not shine, the power input cable and/or
Example of error in sensor S6. the sensor must be replaced.
f – If everything is correct, there might be a problem in PCL
input (see 4.2).

Sensing range = 12mm

BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

4.1.6 – ERROR IN DRIVING MODULE

To solve the problem in the driving module, please proceed as follows:

a - Go to the driving sensor and make sure that its orange light is on. If it shines (when driving
device in locked position), there might be a problem either with the output cable or with the
PLC input (see 4.2).
b - If not, please tighten the connections. If there is no change, please approach a metal piece
to the detecting area of the inductive sensor.
c - If light is still off, there might be a problem either with the input power cable or with the
sensor. Replace the necessary part.
d – If light turns on and the information screen shows that the sensor is working properly, the
problem is that the sensor is not detecting the metallic driving device. Please adjust.

Rango de detección = 8mm

4.1.7 – FALSE SIGNAL OF DRIVING SENSOR

a – Move the driving device to the unlocked position (like in picture below). If the sensor is still
detecting, it means that there is something that affects to correct performance.
b – Clean up all the detecting area.
c – The status led of the sensor must turn off. If not, reboot the system.
d – If it is still not working correctly, replace the sensor.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

4.1.8 – ERROR IN PLC OUTPUTS

If the twistlocks of the BA-03E can not change its position (even with the complete driving
system working properly), please proceed as follows:
a – Make sure that there is no any problem in PLC OUTPUTS system. Please, go to page 3 in
the information screen. On it you can see the status of output “MOTORS
LOCKING/UNLOCKING”.
b – Carry out a complete movement (unlock and lock) with the driving device. If the PLC works
well, the output indicator must change its colour for a while (while motors are working).

If they change their colour, the problem could be in:

- Wiring between PLC and linear actuator control card.
- Linear actuator.

If outputs indicators do not change, it means that there is

some problem in the PLC unit (see 4.2).

4.1.9 – COMMUNICATION FAILURE

Reboot the system.

If there is not information from any sensor of the auxiliary side there it means that there is a
failure in the communication between CAN-BUS module and PLC.
- Check the STATUS LED of the CAN-BUS module.
- If PWR LED is green – Powered properly.
- If DIA LED is red – Communication error.
- Check if there is continuity in the connection between CAN-BUS
module and PLC. Resistance must be 60 Ohms.
- Unplug and plug back connectors C5 and C9.
- Tighten wires connection of connectors.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.

4.1.10 – MECHANICAL BLOCKING

When the actuator gets stuck at some point, its
overload warning will change to red. Please check
twistlock housing and corner fitting. If everything is OK
please check the mechanism that connects twistlocks
to linear actuators. If OK, please check if the actuator is
in good conditions.
BA-030E5 – Use and maintenance instructions.
