Subject: Urgent Need for Testing STP Water to Ensure Compliance with KSPCB & CPCB
Norms.

Dear President and Secretary of Purple Garden Apartment (PGA),

I trust this message finds you in good health.

I am writing to draw your attention to a critical issue that has been adversely affecting
many ground floor residents of Purple Garden Apartment (PGA) – the pervasive foul odor
emanating from the distribution of STP water along the garden and jogging track area.

The installation of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in buildings is a commendable

initiative, which must facilitate the recycling of nearly half of our total daily water
consumption and thereby reducing our reliance on freshwater by 50%.

The treated water should have a pH value ranging between 6.5 and 8.5, biological oxygen
demand should be less than 10mg/l, chemical oxygen demand should be less than 50mg/l,
total suspended solid value should be less than 10mg/l, ammonical nitrogen concentration
should be below 5mg/l, total nitrogen level should be less than 10mg/l and faecal coliform
concentration should be below 100 MPN/100ml.

However, the efficacy of STPs hinges on their proper functioning. Unfortunately, i have a
doubt that the STP facilities at our complex may not be operating up to standard looking at
foul odour of water.

Substandard STP installations pose several risks, including inadequate treatment of

sewage, resulting in health hazards for residents. Common issues with such facilities
include equipment failure, pipe blockages, and effluent that fails to meet regulatory
standards for parameters such as nitrogen, phosphorous, and Biological Oxygen Demand
(BOD). This can lead to the presence of harmful microorganisms, toxic chemicals, and foul
odors in the treated water.
Furthermore, the proximity of the STP to residential areas exacerbates these concerns, as
toxic gases emitted during inadequate treatment can pose severe health risks to residents.

Recent government notifications allowing for the sale of 50% of STP water underscore the
urgency of ensuring compliance with water quality standards set by regulatory bodies like
the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB)

In light of these issues, I urge you to prioritize the testing of our STP water through
accredited laboratories endorsed by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and
Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

This will provide crucial insights into the quality of our treated water and enable us to take
appropriate corrective measures if necessary.

If you want, I can facilitate to get the testing done. I Know few labs in Bengaluru.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I eagerly anticipate your prompt response and
the opportunity to collaborate on ensuring a cleaner and healthier living environment for
all residents of Purple Garden Apartment.

Kindly acknowledge receipt of this complaint at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Pramod Kalyani (109)

Resident of Purple Garden Apartment
