WHAT IS A
A compound sentence is made of two

simple sentences joined by the word and,
but, or, SENTENCE?
or so. These joining words are
called conjunctions.

A comma comes before the conjunction.


RUN-ON SENTENCE
Sometimes a writer puts two simple sentences
together with no comma and conjunction. This
kind of mistake is called a run-on.
Run-ons are confusing because readers don’t
know where one idea stops and another begins.
One way to fix a run-on is to write a compound
sentence.
