Note: High-speed mode is available for every mode but 1440x1440 dpi. Also, every mode
implemented in Caldera Software uses variable dot printing.

White ink support

Due to a lack of quality reported by Mimaki, we don't implement white ink support.

Specific parameters

Here is an explanation of every specific parameters provided in Caldera RIP for the JV5 series.
• Cut media : use the internal cutter at the end of the job. Be careful, this cutter is only able to cut
vinyles and papers. Cutting textiles and banners will usually fail.
• Refresh Level : onprint head cleaning frequency. Unchecking it will force the use of the
printer's panel settings.
• Print color pattern : prints the color stripe on the edge to prevent nozzle drying. Be sure to use
the proper loading to get the right margins ( "RollxxCP" over "Rollxx" ).
• Check media width : checks the measured width of the loaded media and compares it to the
job. If the actual media width is too narrow, the job will be stopped with an error.
• Scan with : amplitude of the head movement when the job width is smaller than the printer's
width. Usually keep the "Printer" setting to ensure printing quality.
• Dot type : "Automatic" setting uses the full variable dot set, whereas other settings force the use
of only one of the available drop sizes. This parameter should be kept to "Automatic"in
production. Others settings will change the ink amount an calibration.
• Data compression : Allows to enable or disable compression of jobs' raster data. We advise
keeping it enabled.

Media parameters

Some parameters are specific to the media. Unchecking them will force the use of the printer's panel
parameters.
• Temperatures : temperatures for the three heaters.
• Feed adjust : adjust the media advance compensation to prevent banding. Default setting is 0.
• Overprint : put more ink on the media. Normal setting is 1.
• Drying time per scan : pause between the passes to improve ink drying. Default setting is 0.
• Absorbtion fan : strength of the drying fan.
• Drying time : pause at the end of the job to allow the ink to dry.
• Wave shape : type of interleaving.

Printing speed issues

Please note that the 540x1080-6 pass high speed can achieve a ~12 m² / h printing speed with a
relatively high resolution. Sometimes the use of Caldera's "Rip-on-the-Fly" feature ( Action =
"Print" ) on complex Postscript jobs will lead to gradually slowing down head movements. To avoid
it, we advise using "Compute Reprint then Print" when necessary. Also avoid using bilinear
interpolation with Postscript files. But even at full speed with no head pauses, the printer doesn't
seem to reach the announced speeds.
For information, here are some results ( m²/hour ):
