The given chart depicts the comparison between the number of users of social networking in

aggregation and two searching tools, Yahoo and Google in the USA during January 2004 to June
2006.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the visitors of the top ten social information systems
along with the two search engines. Another interesting point is that yahoo was the most popular,
followed by Google and other social networking sites throughout the period.
Yahoo increased in the number of visitors, starting with above one hundred million people in
January 2004 and fluctuated over the years. The amount of users that Yahoo had reached around
120 million people and remained the highest popularity among other social networks. Google
witnessed a similar pattern as Yahoo, it started at over 60 million users and had 20 million more after
2 years. Up to Jun 2006, the gap between Google and Yahoo was reduced from 40 million to around
20 million. With 60 million difference compared to Yahoo and 20 million to Google from the
beginning, social networking sites could not reduced the gap by Jun 2006 with around 90 million
users. However, it had the greatest growth, with more 50 million users compared to Yahoo with just
20 million more.
