1) Spacing between main girders is 3m, slab thickness = 20cm, haunch thickness 5cm, and
width 20cm, asphalt thickness = 10cm, steel girder weight = 0.3 t/m’, γ c =2.5t/m3,
γ asphalt =2.5 t/m3, calculate load distributions on the main girder for DL1, DL2, Live
load, wind load distribution (vertical& horizontal, loaded and unloaded case) (Main
girder height 1.0m, bridge width 15m).

2) For plate girder with steel section (bottom flange bf= 40cm, tf = 2cm), (top flange bf=
30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw = 150cm, tw = 1cm), slab thickness = 25cm, fcu = 40MPa (n
= 8), space between main girder = 4m, span of main girders 14m, calculate section
properties including
a) Section properties (centroid and second moment of inertia) for (steel, composite
(short-term), composite (long-term) cases).
b) Positive plastic moment strength for steel, composite cases
c) Negative plastic moment strength for steel, composite cases
d) Yield moment for M D 1=100 m. t , M D 2=200 m. t

3) Mention the types of buckling for plate girder (LRFD Bridge) and explain with drawings
if possible.

4) Calculate the major moment flexural strength (only) of the plate girder with steel section
(bottom flange bf= 40cm, tf = 2cm), (top flange bf= 30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw =
150cm, tw = 1cm). Span of main girders 30m, and the main girders are laterally
supported with 5 intermediate cross-frames.

5) Calculate the major moment flexural strength (only) of the plate girder with steel section
(bottom flange tf = 2cm), (top flange bf= 30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw = 150cm, tw =
1cm, with compression web depth h c=95 cm, I steel=1.56 ×10 6). Span of main girders is
30m, and the main girders are laterally supported with 5 intermediate cross-frames.

6) Calculate the major moment flexural strength (only) of the plate girder with steel section
(steel total steel height =153.5 with compression web depth h c=95 cm, I steel=1.56 ×10 6,
a wc=0.8 , λ rw=120,r t =12 cm). Span of main girders is 30m, and the main girders are
laterally supported with 5 intermediate cross-frames.
7) Check web-bend buckling only for plate girder under M DL 1=100 m. t . Plate girder
(bottom flange tf = 2cm), (top flange bf= 30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw = 150cm, tw =
1cm) with compression web depth h c=95 cm.

8) Calculate the hybrid factor Re for plate steel girder with (bottom flange bf= 40cm, tf =
2cm), (top flange bf= 30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw = 150cm, tw = 1cm).

9) Check shear strength V DL1=2 0 0 t . Plate girder (bottom flange tf = 2cm), (top flange bf=
30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw = 150cm, tw = 1cm) with compression web depth h c=95 cm
(assume no vertical stiffeners.

10) Calculate the horizontal spacing between vertical stiffeners required to ensure the safety
of plate girder with shear strength V DL1=200 t and dimensions (bottom flange tf = 2cm),
(top flange bf= 30cm, tf = 1.5cm), web (hw = 150cm, tw = 1cm) with compression web
depth h c=95 cm.

11) Calculate flange strength M u (m.t) of steel plate girder due to only flange lateral torsional
buckling Lb=600 , Lr =700 cm , L p=250 cm, if steel girder properties h c=80 cm,
I steel=1.56 ×10 , t f ( top )=2 cm, a wc=1.8 ).

12) Calculate flange strength M u (m.t) of steel plate girder due to only flange local buckling,
if steel girder properties h c=80 cm, I steel=1.56 ×10 6, t f ( top )=2 cm, a wc=1.8 ).

13) Calculate minor moment amplifier A f for ( f l= A f f l 1 ) for the top and bottom flange for the
following stresses in below table. If L p=300 cm , Lb=700 , Lr=650 ,r t =15 cm , R PG =1.0.
