Political Dynasty: An abuse of Power

Academic text

According to wikipedia, Political dynasties usually have a strong, consolidated

support base concentrated around the province n which they are dominant. Members of such
dynasties usually do not limit their involvement to political activities, andmay participate in
business pr cultural activities.

Political dynasty is a family or group whose members continue occupying same elective
positions for a long period of time. Political dynasty continues its motion within the society for
self-preservation and expansion of the family. These families used their partnership with those
high ranking class by profession and also in media to gain popularity and to have an assured
strong connections. Political dynasty creates gaps in the society, enables corruption be rampant
and can't allow citizens a chance of winning during elections. I believe that political dynasty
disables the power and authority of people, enables the economic progress slow, and brought a
detrimental to the society. Therefore, there's a need for anti-political dynasty.

I believe that politics is not a family business nor a company that needs to be inherited, it is a
very decent job of a respected individual or people that are willing to serve the country and its
people, to protect each and everyones right and abusing the power is not one of the role of a
politician. According to the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines "political dynasties
breed corruption and ineptitude" because political power is monopolized by political dynasties.

I say its greed that sustains the political dynasty practitioners. The political system will never
change if there is a political dynasty, they will just continue what their parents or family started
which will lead to exacerbating corruption, poverty, and abuse of power. Good governance is
what we all wanted and so the people who also want to serve but didn't has the chance because of
the greed of the people who's been sitting in the throne for a decades. And as we can see, most of
the poorest provinces and municipalities in the country are ruled by dynastic relationships.

Obviously, it seems to me that the public office becomes inherited. Our government become
monarchical in character and no longer constitutional. Then and now, the reality still is political
clans remain a prominent feature of Philippine politics. Political power is still concentrated on
the select segment of polity that is relatively unchanged. Some family names may have, but the
quality of those who wield the power has not. And by some cruel twist of fate, this phenomenon
is again facilitated by a legal framework put in place by the constitution itself.

Today, political dynasty are supposed to be prohibited by the Constitution. Sec. 26 Art:II of the
1987 Constitution. Thoughthis prohibition does exist, an enabling law is needed, since 1987, the
anti-political bills filed never got to first base, it's because most lawmakers from the
administration and opposition oppose the constitutional ban on political dynasties because they
too, come from political dynasties and clans, which have been long entrenched in power.

The sad fact is, for many Filipinos political dynasty are essentially an immovable force. We
recognize the negativity it brings to our political system but a proper resolution seems always out
of reach.
