PRODUCT DEMONSTRATION SOP for CURDLING

Important Notes:

1. Objectives:
To demonstrate
a. That different milks react differently in an acidic environment, depending upon their
whey content.
b. Superior whey content of LACTOGEN vis a vis competitor brands.
2. The activity should only be conducted with the following products
i. LACTOGEN 1
ii. LACTODEX 1
iii. DEXOLAC 1
iv. SIMILAC 1
v. Cow’s milk- 500ml pouch pack locally available (Do not use tetra pack milk)
3. The importance of Breastfeeding should be focused during the activity.
4. Only substantiated scientific & factual information should be provided to the HCPs.
5. This activity is only meant for health care professionals & not for any direct consumer or
mother.
6. Training AV to be used as reference for the method of conducting activity.
7. It is suggested that all experiments are conducted by masking the competition tins with the
cloth covers provided or by a sheet of paper.
8. No refreshment should be provided.
9. The nutrition officer will have an agency working with him for the purpose of the
demonstration.
10. The duty of the agency will be :
a. Operational work such as collecting packs from CD points, carrying the tool kit,
operationally preparing the product in front of the HCPs.
b. In presence of NO/AMN, buying Competitor product packs as and when required.
11. Agency will have no interaction with the HCP.
12. The detailing will be done by the NO.

Preparation for Demonstration Activity

Agency to be prepared with the following:

a) Measuring Cylinder- 2 required (50ml, 250ml capacity)


b) Borosil Measuring Beakers- 3 required (250ml)
c) Products: Cow’s milk (500ml pouch pack), tin pack of LACTOGEN and Competition (Pre-
determined basis the call)
d) Disposable Paper Napkins
e) Disposable Hair nets
f) Disposable Gloves
g) Tin pack cover cloths-number corresponding to competition packs being used.
h) Thermo flask
i) Electric kettle
j) Plastic Stirrers
k) Scissors for opening packs
l) Apron
m) Tray
n) All of the apparatus will be part of a Tool Box which will be standardized pan-India

Method of Product Demonstration:

1. Selection of packs to be used during the demonstration:


a. For every activity, 01 pack of LACTOGEN and 01 pack from competitor brand have to be
used. NO along with AMN can decide on the competitor brand basis the intensity.
b. Non-branded competitor (cow’s milk) may also be used depending upon the intensity.
c. The selected competitor brand is to be purchased by the agency in presence of NO/AMN.
 Both LACTOGEN and Competitor feed can be prepared from previously used “TIN”
packs, depending upon doctor’s requirement.
 However agency should carry fresh packs along with them in case doctor requests
to use fresh packs (Please refer to point no.13)
2. N.O. will take prior appointments (minimum 15mins) for doing the activity with the HCPs (2 per
day).
3. Weekly appointment plan will be shared with the agency every Saturday for the next week.
4. Agency will be prepared for each week basis this plan.
5. Agency along with NO/AMN will collect the stocks of LACTOGEN required every Saturday on a
weekly basis (weekly or monthly basis location) from designated CD points.
6. Only stocks with more than 25% of remaining shelf life (more than 3 months shelf life
remaining) on the last day of the experiment can be used for the Demonstration Activity.
However for competitor products, the fresh packs available in that particular market should be
used.
7. Agency to report for each call half an hour prior to the call.
8. At the time of call, Agency to follow the N.O. into the HCP chamber
9. Agency wears fresh Gloves, hair net and apron before the start of the call.
10. N.O. also wears fresh gloves at the start of the call.
11. Tin packs of LACTOGEN & Competition to be covered with “cover cloths” before entering
doctor’s chamber.
12. Covered tin packs of product to be placed on the doctor’s table.
13. Preparation instruction for Agency:
a. Place 3 beakers on a tray on the table.
b. For showcasing the prepared feed for both the products, follow one of the following 2
options basis doctor’s feedback:
i. Reusing Tin Packs:
Check with the doctor whether he wants activity to be conducted with previously
opened packs (Packs of both LACTOGEN & Competitor product can be stored for
maximum 5 days).
 If Doctor agrees with this option, then reuse packs of LACTOGEN &
Competitor product (Only tin packs are to be used).

OR

ii. Opening Fresh Packs:


If the doctor disagrees to above option and asks to conduct the activity with fresh
packs then open 1 fresh pack each of LACTOGEN & Competitor product.
c. Water from fresh water bottles to be boiled in the electric kettle, cooled down to Luke
warm and kept ready in the thermo flask prior to the call.
d. If Cow’s milk is also to be used for the demonstration, then ensure that it is heated to
lukewarm temperature (not very cold/hot) & kept ready prior to the call.
e. Of the water from the thermo flask measure the required amount of water using measuring
cylinder and pour to the respective beakers (Please refer to annexure 1)
f. With the scoops provided in the packs, measure appropriate amount of powder and add it
to the beakers already filled with water. (Please refer to annexure 1)
g. Stir the mixture gently and make the powder completely mixed with water.
h. Pour cow’s milk in the 3rd beaker (if it is to be used during the demonstration).
i. Measure 10ml lemoneez in a measuring cylinder & dilute the same in 30 ml water.
j. Pour 40ml of diluted lemoneez mixture in each of the 3 beakers containing formula feeds
(LACTOGEN, Competition, Cow’s milk).
14. Set the acidified feeds for few minutes & allow to curdle.
15. Along with the experiment NO to highlight benefits of a whey pre-dominant formula over casein
with substantiated facts.
16. The entire apparatus to be cleaned up and disposed after the activity.

1.2 Stock for the activity:

 Always use clean packs with no dust, dent, rust or buckling.


17. Products should have minimum shelf life of 25%. However for competitor products, the fresh
packs available in that particular market should be used.
 All the above mentioned packs of LACTOGEN & competitor products are to be reused for the
activities planned during the week.
 Products must be kept away from any source of contamination and properly stored.
 Prepared feeds should be disposed properly and not used for further demonstrations
 Batch code/ MRP should be clearly readable.
1.3 Method for CD to claim stocks used for the activity:

 BNM/ BCCSD to make a master list & then generate CD-wise sanction letters (VISA).
 NO to take stocks from the designated CD’s against the sanction letter & CD to claim, with that
as supporting.

1.4 Method for Agency to claim for Competitor Packs used during the activity:

 Agency to mention in the list number of competitor packs used corresponding to city name and
number of “Curdling” activity conducted in that particular city.
 At the end of each month, the above list along with actual bills attached at the end is to be
signed by NO/AMN and then claimed by the agency.

1.5 Apparatuses:

 Entire apparatus including beakers, measuring cylinder & stirrer should be clean, free of dirt and
foreign odor.
 To be food grade, and should be from authorized manufacturer
 In case of any breakage or contamination, the apparatus should be immediately replaced

1.6 Personal Hygiene of Agency:

 Agency person should wear clean and appropriate clothing for a medical detailing
 Agency person should maintain a high degree of personal hygiene such as of shirt, salwar
kameez, saree etc. should be clean, fingernails should be short and clean, and hair should be
neat.
 Agency person should wash their hands before and after the activity

1.7 Disposal Tips:

 Product residues should be disposed at an appropriate place after the activity.

Please follow the below table in selecting competitor brands and its method of preparation:
