Harvard referencing

Please adhere to the Harvard Style of referencing. A complete reference should have an in-
text that corresponds with the list of references provided at the end of the assignment. ;

In-text referencing example

Direct quotation

Should the student use a direct quotation, it must be placed between two inverted
commas and the exact words of the author used e.g

“Administration is a type of cooperative human effort that has a high degree of rationality”
(Waldo, 1995:6).

If the name of the author forms part of the sentence, reference the sentence as
follows;

According to Hanekom (1993), it can be argued that…….

If the author/s is/are referenced at the end of the sentence, follow the example below.

All information obtained from other researchers should be correctly referenced and
acknowledged to avoid plagiarism issues (Brynard, Hanekom & Brynard, 2022).

Lets say you want to reference these authors again, reference it as follows (Brynard et al.,
2022).

The list of references should be as follows;

 References should be arranged alphabetically.

 Journal articles- Start with the surname followed by the author's initials. Then the
year in which the work was published, the title of the article, Journal name, volume
(issue number): and page numbers e.g
 Ehrenberg, A.S.C. (1982). Writing technical papers or reports. The American
Statistician, 36(4): 326-329.

Books
Start with Surname, Initial. (Year of publication). Title. Edition if later than first. Place of
publication: publisher. Series and volume number if relevant.
e.g Allen, L.A. (2004). The management profession. New York: McGraw-Hill.

 Internet source- Surname and initials, year of publication. Title of the article. Online.
Available. Put the link. Accessed on.
 E.g
 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, 2022. Opportunity Amid Disruption. [Online].
Available: https://www.gemconsortium.org/file/open?fileId=50900. (Accessed on 03
April 2023).
