allegedly submitting fake transfer
certificates in their Ulhasnagar-
based college, a Thane police official
said on Thursday.The case was
registered on Wednesday on the
complaint of a Mumbai University
official, Inspector Vikram Gaud of
Vitthalwadi police station said.“Prior
to October 11, 2018 they submitted
fake TCs which they claimed were
from a college in Vikhroli in Mumbai.
A check showed the college had
never issued these TCs. No arrest
has been made and further probe is
underway,” he added.The
graduation certificates of these 12
students, including three girls, is on
hold pending the probe, college
officials said.

cannot even recognise Meerut today, it has become a mega city,” Govil
told. He was yet to visit the area where he was born but said that place
may also have changed.Govil’s opponents from the Samajwadi Party
have termed him an outsider who knows nothing about Meerut and
say he would go away and not work for the seat if elected. “Why would
I not give time to Meerut? I had left at 17 for work and to build my
career. Now I am back. I always do work after putting thought into it
and with a vision and ideals. I do not do anything on impulse and
change my mind or forget about it. I have intellectual honesty and

By putting up Govil from Meerut, the BJP has tried a bigger gambit
in western UP, which has been roiled by Hindu-Muslim politics for the
past decade. It has dropped its three-time MP, RajendraAgrawal, from
Meerut.Govil though credited Agrawal for the development of Meerut.
There have been some murmurs about an outsider to the BJP being
fielded. But Agrawal has been alongside Govil to ensure a smooth
transition. “Parivartantohhotahai (change happens), this is natural.
Govil is already in our hearts for Ram’s portrayal. Ram temple was
made in Ram’s birthplace and Govil is in his birthplace,” Agrawaltold.
Locals say Meerut has been one of the safest seats for the BJP but it
was difficult for RajendraAgrawal to win again after three terms. “So it
is good that the BJP has changed its candidate, and even better that
ArunGovil has been chosen to be the one. He will win with a record
margin,” a group of locals in Meerut’s Shastri Market told .Govil is
talking about the 12-lane Meerut Expressway that has reduced the
travel time to Delhi to just 45 minutes, the Rs 32,000-crore RapidX
project, and the Meerut Metro project among the BJP’s achievements.

central government’s contribution to the monthly pay of ASHA,
Anganwadi, and Mid-Day Meal workers will be doubled.The party has
further promised to appoint an AdhikaarMaitri in every panchayat to
serve as a paralegal to educate women and assist them in the
enforcement of their legal rights,” he said.The Congress has also
promised to set up ‘SavitribaiPhule Hostels’, under which the central
government will double the number of working women’s hostels in the
country, with at least one hostel in each district.

spread in the state and noted that a high alert was also issued. Cops
are on absolute alert in areas like Ghazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Jaunpur
and Varanasi.He also took note that when Mukhtar was in Punjab jail,
“he had submitted many such applications on medical grounds” to
avoid appearing in UP courts. “He has not always been healthy and
has been ill for long,” Singh added.“Mukhtar Ansari was a criminal, a
don, and a mafia, and his death should not be thought of extensively…”

through government’s
portal GeM has crossed
Rs 4 lakh crore so far this
fiscal due to higher buying
activities by various
ministries and
departments, a senior
government official said
on Friday. The
Government e-Market
(GeM) portal was
launched on August 9,
2016, for online
purchases of goods and
services by all central
government ministries
and departments.“As of
March 28, the
procurement has crossed
Rs 4 lakh crore. It is
historic,” GeM CEO P K
Singh told reporters here.
In 2021-22 the
procurement value stood
at Rs 1.06 lakh crore and
it crossed Rs 2 lakh crore
last financial year. He said
that procurement of
services from the portal
has jumped from Rs
66,000 crore in 2022-23
to Rs 2.05 lakh crore so
far this fiscal.Similarly,
goods worth Rs 1.95 lakh
crore have been bought
from the platform till
March 28 this fiscal. GeM
has over 63,000
government buyer
organisations and over 62
lakh sellers and service
providers offering a wide
range of products and
services.Currently,
government departments,
ministries, public sector
units, state governments,
and central armed police
forces are allowed to carry
out transactions through
this portal. The portal
provides a wide range of
products from office
stationery to vehicles.
Automobiles, computers
and office furniture are
some of the major product
categories.Services,
including transportation,
logistics, waste
management, webcasting
and analytical, are listed
on the portal. South
Korea’s KONEPS is the
largest such platform in
the world. GeM stands at

the touchable group in the case. The plaintiffs, mainly consisting of
the touchable Hindu group, argued that the Chavadhar tank is
private and not public property as claimed by Ambedkar and his
associates (S.K. Bole resolution applies only to public property,
meaning the one maintained on the public funds). Since it is private
property, the touchable groups residing near the tanks by right of
ownership can prohibit the untouchables from using the tank water.
It is interesting to find that the touchable groups include not only
Hindus but also some of the Muslim families residing near the tank.
The touchable Hindu confirms that the Muslim families living near
the tank have been allowed to use the water for a long time, as
Muslims fall under the class of the touchables. However, later, a
modification to the position was made by saying that there exist two
classes of Muslims: (i) those converted from the touchable Hindus
and (ii) those converted from the untouchable Hindus.The touchable
groups have no objection to the first category group using the tank.
The Muslim families, just like the touchable groups, also contributed
both in terms of money and labour to maintain the tanks. However,
the interesting aspect of the usage and maintenance rights of the
Muslims does not make them the co-owners, along with the
touchable Hindu groups residing near the tank. The right to
ownership remains with the touchable Hindu groups, who allow the
other touchable groups in the town to access the water.It was
difficult to determine when and how the Muslims acquired the
usage rights over a claimed private tank.Simultaneously, the
evidence in the form of documents showing the contribution made
by the municipality in the maintenance of the tank as long as the
council’s formation in 1865.The court also denied the role of any
human agency in the construction of the tank, claiming it was a
“natural excavation in the bed of the earth” and, therefore, not
claimed to be owned by any particular group in the town. Moreover,
the touchable group failed to provide the name of the person who
constructed the tank. In light of this evidence, the court rejected
the touchable’s plea that Mahad is a private tank, making it
accessible to the untouchables.
Hindu mind and caste disgust
The story of the Mahad tank struggle sheds light on the
inflexibility of the caste system and the mindset of Hindus towards
untouchables in our society. It’s worth noting that for the Hindu
mindset, one’s social status in the caste hierarchy is more
important than their religion. In other words, if you’re born as an
untouchable, changing your faith won’t change your status.This
rigid aspect of the caste system leaves no room for freedom. The
caste disgust against untouchables runs deep in the Hindu mind,
beyond the material aspect of it. Caste exists in both the past and
modern times, and while it has a material aspect in some cases,
this isn’t always the case, as seen in the Mahad tank situation.
Therefore, according to Ambedkar, the fight for access to water
isn’t only about natural resources but about challenging the
ingrained caste bias and hatred towards untouchable groups in
society. The question remains, whether the Mahad struggle and
subsequent struggles for access to common resources such as
land, forests, and water have disturbed the Hindu mindset enough
to initiate a moral transformation towards an egalitarian society.

that a meeting of the cabinet will be called to
seek their approval for the constitution of the
said Commission. He fully endorsed the views
expressed by the chief justice and Senior
Puisne Judge and further assured them that
he will be taking other appropriate measures
to ensure an independent judiciary, including
issuance of directions to the relevant
departments, and initiating legislation in
accordance with the judgment of the apex
court the FaizabadDharna judgment of 2017.
The apex court also said that the CJP received
a letter dated 25 March 2024 from six judges
of the Islamabad High Court on 26 March
2024.Considering the gravity of the allegations
levelled in the said letter, the CJP called a
meeting on the same day with the Chief Justice
and all the Judges of the Islamabad High Court
at his residence. The concerns of all the Judges
were heard individually in a meeting that
lasted for over 2 and a half hours.The following
day, 27 March 2024, the CJP met with the
Attorney-General MansoorAwan and the Law
Minister AzamTarar, and thereafter the CJP
along with the Senior Puisne Judge met with
the President of the Supreme Court Bar
Association and the senior most member of
the Pakistan Bar Council present in
Islamabad.A Full Court Meeting of all the
Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan was
called under the chairmanship of the CJP the
same day (March 27), which deliberated over
the issues raised in the letter sent by the six
Judges of the Islamabad High Court.A
consensus was developed amongst the
majority of the members of the Full Court that
in view of the gravity of the situation, the CJP
may hold a meeting with the Prime Minister on
the issues raised in the said letter and the
meeting was adjourned.After the meeting with
the Prime Minister, the top judge again called
a Full Court meeting and briefed the Judges on
what had transpired at the meeting with the
premier.Earlier, the Prime Minister,
accompanied by the Law Minister and Attorney-
General, met with the CJP, Senior Puisne Judge
and Registrar of the Supreme Court at the
Supreme Court at 2 pm today. The meeting
lasted for about an hour and a half.Meanwhile,
jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party rejected
the decision for a commission headed
by a retired judge to probe the
allegations by the judges. “We reject it
and demand that the sitting judges
should be appointed to head the
commission and the government should
stay away from this issue,” PTI chief
Gohar Khan said. Law Minister
AzamNazeerTarar accompanied by
Attorney General MansoorUsmanAwan
addressed a press conference, saying
that Sharif discussed in detail with the chief
justice the thorny issue and they agreed to set
up a probe commission, headed by a former
judge, to ascertain the veracity of the
allegations.Tarar said Sharif had summoned a
meeting of the Cabinet on Friday to discuss the
issue. “The Cabinet will agree on the name of
a former judge of good repute to head the
commission to probe the matter and prepare a
report,” he said.He also assured that the
matter would be properly investigated and
steps would be taken to stop such incidents of
interference in future.Tarar also said that
Sharif has assured the chief justice that the
government would take the matter to its logical
conclusion. “He (the prime minister) said point
blank in the meeting that there will be no
compromise on the independence of the
judiciary,” Tarar quoted Sharif as saying.

Mehmood Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Sardar Ejaz
Ishaq Khan, Arbab Muhammad Tahir and
Saman RafatImtiaz, in a stunning move,
addressed the letter to the Supreme Judicial
Council (SJC) for help to deal with the rising
incidents of meddling in the affairs of the
judiciary.The letter went on to highlight the
interference of executive and agencies in
judicial matters, including the kidnapping and
torture of the brother-in-law of a high court
judge to put pressure on the judge regarding a
case, demanding the SJC for the initiation of a
judicial convention against such interference
in the judicial affairs.The decision to probe the
matter came after different lawyers’ bodies
and political parties demanded action.
