Wakeland Percussion Update

Congratulations to Chloe Ross, Sarah James, Ireland Jackson, and Nina Kamo for their wonderful performances during this
year’s Region Concert. Thank you for your preparation and participation in this year’s Region Bands.

We have a lot of special opportunities for Wakeland Percussion this Spring. Percussion Ensemble 1 will attend the North Texas
Percussion Festival at Forney High School, and Percussion Ensemble 2 members will perform their solos at the UIL Solo Competition
at Emerson High School* on February 24th. Hall of Fame Percussionist She-e Wu will be on campus on March 6th and 7th for our
“Guest Artist Series” Percussion Concert. She will work with both ensembles and perform during our concert on March 7th,
beginning at 7:00 PM.

The Wakeland Percussion Cluster Concert will be on March 28th at 7:00 PM with the percussion students of Griffin and Cobb Middle
School. (This is earlier than it has been in the past.) Wakeland Percussion Ensemble 1 will be traveling to Fort Worth for the TCU
Percussion Festival on April 6th, and new this year, Wakeland Percussion will feature soloists and small ensembles in a Chamber
Concert on April 25th.

Chamber Concert

*Percussion Ensemble 2 students performing their solos at UIL will communicate with their private lesson teacher and me to finalize
the purchase of their solos and sign up before Friday, January 19th.

This Spring’s ensemble practice schedule was sent out at the start of the semester and begins tomorrow morning. Please
communicate with me as soon as you know of a conflict, and we will work around it. Percussion Ensemble 1 will meet at 7:15 AM -
8:45 AM on Tuesdays and 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM on Thursdays. Percussion Ensemble 2 will meet at 7:15 AM - 8:45 AM on Thursdays.

Concert Band classes have begun. Please ensure you read the weekly band newsletter for all band class information. Specifically,
the band class supplies list that is required to be organized. Part assignments and music have been passed out. You can find this
information on the percussion canvas page if you lose your music or forget your assignment.

2024 Wakeland Drumline audition information will be sent out on February 1. Auditions will take place on April 9-12. Times
will be finalized before February 1. We will have our May Drumline Camp this year at Wakeland High School, May 20-24. Times for
this will also be finalized before February 1.
