UNITED INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (UIU)

Dept. of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE)

Final Project, Trimester: Fall, Year: 2023
Course: EEE 2106 / EEE 224 (Sec: A)
Title: Digital Electronics Laboratory
Full Marks: 30

Problem Statement:
1. Find out a real-life complex engineering problem that can be solved by digital
electronics. Then design and implement a solution of the problem [CO1-PO3].
a. The solution must include considerable amount of digital electronics knowledge
including at least a few of the following:
i. Decoder, Encoder
ii. Multiplexers
iii. Adder, Subtractor, Comparator
iv. D flip-flop, D latch
v. Registers
vi. Counters etc.
b. The students can use any kind of microcontroller or microprocessor providing that
the project fulfills the requirement 1a.
2. Prepare and submit a technical report on the project [CO4-PO10].
3. Demonstrate the project to the peers and the instructor [CO4-PO10].
4. Present the project by computer presentation to the peers and the instructor [CO4-PO10].
5. The project must require depth of knowledge (analysis and design using concepts from
digital electronics, Ex- truth-table formulation, K-map, design steps for FSM), no
obvious solution (can be solved in many ways, Ex- a function can be implemented using
gates/decoders/multiplexers etc), includes many components (must have sub-blocks/sub-
circuits, Ex- Assignment 1 or, circuit including many building blocks and sensors etc)
and range of resources (deal with individual, equipment, money and technology for idea
and implementation).

Timeline:
● Class 8: It is a group project, the group leader has to submit a project proposal with title
and abstract.
● Class 9: Short presentation video (3 minutes) on the project modality by the students.
● Class 11: Demonstration of the first prototype of the project (implemented in breadboard)
by the students.
● Class 12: Demonstration of the final hardware (implemented in veroboard), oral
presentation and report submission by the students.

or any other standard websites. However, the project has to have a good amount of digital
electronics in it and should not be a copy and paste from the website.

Veroboard/PCB Implementation:
Bread board is very effective in quick circuit implementation and verification. However, as the
connections are made with loose wires, the circuit often fails because of loss of connection. For
durability the project circuit has to be implemented in Veroboard/PCB.

Report:
The report should include the following:
1. Title
2. Introduction
3. Description of the project
4. Design
5. Full circuit diagram and explanation
6. Simulation results
7. Picture of the project
8. Application areas, Limitations
9. Conclusion

Video Submission:
The student should submit a 2-minute (maximum) video of the working project.
