Question📃 Chapter 4 Discussion Question

✨ Explain the different types of Philippine folk dance.

Filipino folk dances can be divided into three (3) main regional categories: Muslim
dances, Lowland Christian dances, and finally Cordilleran tribal dances.
Tribal dances from the Cordilleras feature non-Christian dances from the region
that express the lives of its occupants by celebrating their people. Their dances
include, but are not limited to, those associated with rites for a bountiful harvest,
good health, and conflict.
Second, cultures with western influences like Tagalog, Ilokanos, Pampanguenos,
Bisayans, and Bicolanos gave rise to lowland Christian dances. This dance is
related to their religion, or to their culture and beliefs.
Last but not the least, Muslim Dances. These dances are mostly performed in
southern Philippine islands notably Mindanao and Sulu. These dances are most
likely a fusion of the two.
Give 2 fundamental folk dance steps and explain each in 3- 5 sentences.
The dancer's body position is described as swaying elegantly from vertical and
then away from the standing foot and the movement's direction in order to maintain
balance with a close. Sway is a blend of calm and motion in dance, and it may be
done by just letting your body naturally swing. In ballroom and folk dancing, this
fundamental or technique is frequently used.
Waltz is typically performed by a couples moving in a lively or obvious manner
around the dance floor while following rhythmic progression.
