BPT1501 ASSIGNMENT 2

UNIQUE NUMBER: 529262

1. A professional teacher is a qualified, skilled and professional educator who

possesses the necessary attributes, qualities and professionalism to guide
students through the learning process and can understand and teach the
curriculum to students effectively through the application of different teaching
techniques.

2. SCENARIO 1

Mrs Karateka did not act in a professional manner at all, she did not adhere to the
safety of the students whilst demonstrating her defensive holds. This shows that
she had no consideration for the students hence her conduct does not promote r
a safe classroom environment for her students but instead raises questions of
her professionalism, although demonstrative education is good; a teacher
should be wary of the kind of demonstrations they present to students and the
effect it can have afterwards.

She also violated the student’s wellbeing; this behaviour was not only
inappropriate but it was also offensive towards the students. Being physical with
students in that manner can result in the students experiencing trauma
especially the student who was choked to the point of unconsciousness,
students will not longer feels safe due to mental and emotional trauma brought
about by this action from their teacher.

I can conclusively say Mrs Karateka did not only behave unprofessional but also
did not demonstrate the essential 3 C’ s of professionalism in the teaching
profession.
SCENARIO 2

The Grade 1 teacher did not act professionally for these reasons.

Firstly, there is an issue of empathy which is one of the fundamental qualities of

being a teacher, the teacher’s behaviour shows an extreme lack of empathy
towards Pathetic. Her behaviour shows lack of compassion and understanding
towards the learners by subjecting her to clean up her waste with her bare hands
therefore her response towards the situation was extremely unprofessional.

There is also the issue of health and safety standards in schools which violated
by the teacher when she instructed Pathetic to unclog the toilet without any
proper cleaning equipment which exposes her and other learners at a potential
risk of getting diseases. She did not take into consideration that this was not her
fault and taught her the proper toilet etiquette to avoid such in future, instead
she degraded the students to the lowest point and showed no respect however
for the learner in question. She also did not consider that a learner in that Grade
is at a learning stage where they should be taught the right and wrong way to
conduct themselves.

In conclusion to the above, the teacher should have demonstrated her

professionalism by teaching the learner in a constructive way not in a manner
that shows disregard towards the learner.

SCENARIO 3

Mr Excitement acted in a very unprofessional manner given that;

Him being a coach at the school makes him a representative of the school and it
also means he is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the student. He
chose to ignore the issue of the shortage of transport for the players and took his
risky decision to transport them with his Honda which was overloaded, he
should have opted to find more solutions to the problem by making an inquiry to
the school management or sports organiser for proper and adequate transport
for the team. The wellbeing of the players was not taken into account by him,
whilst the players were stuffed into his card there was too much room for them
to get diseases due to the unhygienic environment, he exposed them to.
The safety of players was completely ignored in this case, for example if you take
into consideration the two students who rode in his latched trunk; you can see
that they could have easily gotten into an accident had the coach came across
an unexpected pothole or if he ignored a hump and got seriously injured. Mr
Excitement not only acted unprofessionally but also violated the 4 P’s of
professionalism which are being prompt, prepared, professional and polite.
Stuffing all players in his car shows a great deal of disrespect for the school and
players.

He should have demonstrated his professionalism as a coach by sourcing

external transport should the school be unable to provide him with one.
