1.5 Precautions in Using the System
This section describes the precautions for using the system.

or details on the precautions for using the flat panel sensor, see “Flat Panel Sensors 1201SE/
F
DR-ID 1202SE/DR-ID 1211SE/DR-ID 1212SE/DR-ID 1213SE Operation Manual”.
1
1.5.1 Handling
For Safe Operation

• To ensure optimal image quality, it is recommended that you do not place the cables (power
cable, communication cable, etc.) of the X-ray cart near devices (motor, transformer, switching
supply, etc.) that generate electromagnetic noise and their cables.
• Do not use a power strip or extension cable for powering the X-ray cart constituting the system.
• When a flat panel sensor communicating with the X-ray cart is to be used in another system,
communication between the flat panel sensor and the X-ray cart may still be established. To
establish communication between the flat panel sensor and a device in another system, connect
the flat panel sensor to the device in another system with the cable or insert it into the docking
stand. The flat panel sensor is recognized and wireless communication becomes available.

CAUTIONS
● When the main circuit breaker is turned on or off, wait at least 10 seconds before turning it
off or on again. Do not turn off or on the main circuit breaker immediately after turning it on
or off. Doing so may cause equipment failure.
● At the time of traveling or positioning, ensure that the cable of the hand switch is not caught
by the X-ray cart or an obstacle in the vicinity to prevent the cable from being broken.

1.5.2 Before Exposure

• The use of an air-conditioner may dramatically changes the temperature of the room where
the system is installed. This may cause dew condensation on the system, resulting in quality
problems. When an air-conditioner is used, change the temperature gradually to avoid
temperature variation in order not to cause dew condensation.
• Do not perform unnecessary preparation operations. If no exposure is made for a long time with
the hand switch held pushed to the first level, the filament of the X-ray tube assembly may break.

CAUTIONS
● When moving the arm, avoid collision or pinching. The arms or legs of the operator or
patient may be caught between the arm and the main body of the X-ray cart, floor, wall, etc.,
causing injury to the patient or operator.
● When positioning the patient, take care of the position of the X-ray cart. In particular, take
care not to hit one’s head against the collimator or arm. Otherwise, it may cause injury to the
operator or patient.
● When inserting or removing the flat panel sensor into/from the multi-function DR slot, tilt the
multi-function DR slot toward the front, and then insert or remove the flat panel sensor while
taking care not to hit your hands against the DR lock knob, DR lock key, etc.
● When positioning a patient, be careful that the X-ray cart does not hit or get caught on
neighboring objects such as another medical device, infusion stand and infusion tube.
Otherwise, the X-ray cart may tip over, causing injury to the operator and/or patient or
damage to the neighboring objects.

1-14 DR-XD 1000 (DR-XD 1000PX) Operation Manual 897N200038C

1.5.3 During Exposure
Before making an exposure, make sure that exposure conditions most appropriate for the X-ray cart
are set.
For details on exposure conditions, see “A.4 Exposure Conditions”.

1.5.4 Non-Linking Mode for Memory Exposure

The non-linking mode for memory exposure is used in the memory exposure mode of the flat panel

sensor and for X-ray tube aging.
No warranty is given as to exposures using X-ray films, imaging plates or non-designated flat panel

For Safe Operation

sensors.

1.5.5 Continuous Operation

When making X-ray exposures one after another, allow a longer interval between exposures than
that indicated in the graph “Minimum exposure interval for energy input to X-ray system (tube)”. Do
not make exposures more than 60 times in an hour. Otherwise, X-ray exposure may be disabled for
a long time due to heat generated from the X-ray tube.

ee the graph “Minimum exposure interval for energy input to X-ray system (tube)” in “A.1.4
S
Characteristics of X-ray Exposure”.

1.5.6 During Cleaning

To clean the outer surfaces, use a cleaning cloth tightly wrung out of commercially available ethanol.

CAUTIONS
● Be sure to turn off the power before cleaning each part of the X-ray cart. If the power is left
on, inadvertent contact to X-ray cart may result in unintentional operations.
● Do not use an excessive amount of ethanol, as doing so may allow the liquid to enter from
the gap on the outer surfaces, resulting in the damage to the equipment, or cause the labels
to come off. Make sure not to let ethanol get inside the equipment.
● Do not use a solvent such as thinner or benzine, as it corrodes the outer surfaces.
● Use dehydrated ethanol or ethanol diluted with purified water.
● When cleaning the operation panel, observe the following precautions.
• Do not rub or hit the operation panel with something hard since it can easily be scratched.
• If any dust adheres to the operation panel, wipe it off with a soft cloth moistened with
water.

1.5.7 During Traveling

Before moving the X-ray cart, be sure to store the arm and confirm that the arm is locked in all
directions.

CAUTIONS
When moving the X-ray cart, take care that the casters of the X-ray cart do not run over the feet
of the operator or patient. Otherwise, it may cause injury to the operator or patient.

DR-XD 1000 (DR-XD 1000PX) Operation Manual 897N200038C 1-15

1.5.8 During Charging

● Radio waves in the 5.2GHz frequency band can be used indoors only. (For Egypt)
Dual channels can be used indoors only.
● When this system and any other wireless equipment are operating on the same frequency
channel in a hospital, it may take time to show an image on the image processing unit
monitor.
● The access point supports the DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) function conforming to
IEEE 802.11n. When radio waves in the 5.3GHz and 5.6GHz frequency bands are selected, the
channel may be changed automatically in order to avoid interference to weather radar, etc.
● Even during start-up, the access point checks if there are any radar waves. While the check
is in progress, communication with the access point is not available.
● If a radar wave is detected, the radar wave is monitored for a specified time (about 1
minute)*. While monitoring the radar wave, wireless communication is not available. In
addition, about 30 minutes are required until the channel in which a radar wave was detected
becomes available.
* 10 minutes for the 120 to 128 channels in Europe

DR-ID 1202SE/DR-ID 1211SE/DR-ID 1212SE/DR-ID 1213SE and image processing
software Virtual Grid implements a lightweight and compact system with downsized X-ray
equipment. In addition, the cart caster mechanism enables high maneuverability (rotating
on the spot and moving in all directions), which cannot be realized with the conventional
mobile X-ray unit.
2 The compact body and slim arm have significantly improved the forward and downward
visibility during traveling.
3 The system is equipped with the multi-function DR slot, which can be used for charging and
2 sharing the flat panel sensor. By utilizing the mechanism for moving the multi-function DR
slot back and forth, the flat panel sensor can easily be inserted into a disposable cover. In
addition, the flat panel sensor can be locked with a key.
System Configuration (Product Overview)

4 The operation panel integrating the X-ray controller and the image processing unit can be
rotated, tilted or moved up and down depending on the operator and/or exposure condition.
5 The tube voltage, tube current time product and automatically calculated dose area product
values are stored in the DICOM tag. The Virtual Grid Software is automatically optimized
based on the actual values.
6 The high-performance lithium-ion battery enables long-time use and quick charge. In
addition, even if the remaining battery capacity is small, exposures can be made by
connecting the power cable to a commercial power supply.
7 By using the top board tray, accessory case (optional) and X-ray protective apron hanger
(optional), items required for portable imaging can be transported with the X-ray cart.
8 When the irradiation field adjustment knobs are operated, the light field lamp is
automatically lit.

Cleaning Before Use
To clean the outer surfaces, use a cleaning cloth tightly wrung out of commercially available ethanol.

CAUTIONS
● Be sure to turn off the power before cleaning or disinfecting each part of the X-ray cart. If the
power is left on, inadvertent contact to the X-ray cart may result in unintentional operations.
● When cleaning or disinfecting the operation panel, observe the following precautions.
• Do not rub or hit the operation panel with something hard since it can easily be scratched.
• If any dust adheres to the operation panel, wipe it off with a soft cloth moistened with
water.

5.1.2 Inspecting the Dose Area Product

Since any calculated dose area product value is a reference value, use it only for reference
purpose.
The calculated value may deviate from the actual exposure dose by approximately 25%. The
accuracy of the calculated value is not guaranteed.

5 In addition, if the radiation field size is small or if a low-dose exposure condition is applied, the
calculated value may deviate from the actual exposure dose by more than approximately 25%.
When the opening degree of the upper blade, lower blade or both blades becomes narrower than
the specified level, the dose area product display is displayed as “0”.
Daily Inspection and Maintenance

The dose area product calculation function needs to be calibrated periodically.

To perform calibration, contact our official dealer or FUJIFILM Representative.

5.1.3 Term of Validity/Period for Use (Durability)

The term of validity (durability) is 6 years from first use of the X-ray cart and the flat panel sensor,
provided that the precautions for use are followed and that the X-ray cart and flat panel sensor
undergo regular maintenance and inspection. “Based on our company’s criteria”

5.1.4 Aging
When using the X-ray cart, perform aging to prevent the X-ray tube from deterioration.

1 Fully close the radiation field of the collimator.

Fully close the radiation field by rotating the irradiation field adjustment knobs.

2 Switch the X-ray cart to the non-linking mode for memory exposure.
Press and hold the DR link switch on the X-ray controller for two seconds to turn off the DR link switch.

3 Make an X-ray exposure.

CAUTIONS
To prevent the human body from being exposed to X-ray radiation, irradiate X-rays toward the
floor. Before performing aging, move the flat panel sensor away from the X-ray radiation field
so as not to irradiate X-rays onto the flat panel sensor.

(5) Image Quality Evaluation

Fujifilm typically conducts reader studies that compare new detector models to chosen marketed
devices. These studies, involving an assessment of image quality by board-certified radiologists,
Appendix A Specifications

have demonstrated that the images acquired using the detectors are deemed to be of diagnostic
capability. Additionally, reader studies have concluded that, when used in conjunction with
FUJIFILM’s recommended exposure conditions as a reference, both the GOS-based and Csl-based
detectors can provide acceptable diagnostic capability and image quality at reasonably low dose
levels typically used for pediatric use.

(6) Typical Patient Dose

As with any new product/application, Fujifilm provides applications training support to each
customer to establish the dose levels that meet the image quality standards of the medical facility.
As part of this training, we provide both recommended technique charts as well as guidance for
optimizing AEC conditions for each detector type. When using any detector, typical patient dose
levels should not exceed that of screen/film or Computed Radiography.

Each flat panel sensor complies with IEC 62220-1 (MEDICAL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT -
CHARACTERISTICS OF DIGITAL X-RAY IMAGING DEVICES) as a general X-ray radiography
equipment.

To ensure optimal image quality, it is recommended that you do not use the flat panel sensor near
devices (motor, transformer, switching supply, etc.) that generate electromagnetic noise.

Appendix Z
Precautions for Exposure
Z.1 Information on Radiation
Z.1.1 Radiation Protection
The operator has an obligation to follow the local laws and regulations to minimize radiation
exposure to the patients and medical professionals. For persons other than patients, a minimum
distance from the equipment is specified in each area.

Z.1.2 Deterministic Effects

In diagnostic radiology, the organ and tissue of interest are skin and crystalline lens, and the
threshold value of the exposure dose ranges from 1 Gy to 3 Gy.
When an exposure is made under the conditions which maximize the entrance surface dose (100
kV, 25 mAs, SID = 100 cm), the reference value of the entrance surface dose is 2.5 mGy.
During an examination, if 40 or more consecutive exposures are made under the conditions which
maximize the entrance surface dose, deterministic effects due to radiation may occur in patients.
When using the equipment, the operator should control the exposure dose appropriately,
considering deterministic effects.

Z.2 Precautions for Use in Wireless
Communication Mode
Care should be taken when the devices are used in wireless communication mode. Thoroughly read the
following precautions in order to use the devices properly.

■ Icons Displayed on the Image Processing Unit

An icon indicating the status of wireless communication is displayed in the connected devices status
at the lower right of the image processing unit display. Before an exposure is made, check the
displayed icon to make sure that proper wireless communication is established.

Z.3 Other Precautions
Z.3.1 Precautions for Exposure of a Subject in Relatively
Large Contrast
1 Exposures using a contrast medium may cause artifacts around it.
2 When exposing a subject with any metal objects implanted, artifacts may appear around them.
3 For exposures with objects of large X-ray absorption, such as lead characters and metals for
measurement, artifacts may appear around them. Place such objects outside a subject.

Z.3.2 Precautions for Flat Panel Sensor

Generally, when performing a high sensitivity exposure shortly after an exposure that the flat
panel sensor excessively receives direct X-ray, the output image may contain image lags of the
previous exposure. This phenomenon rarely occurs and does not occur insofar as normal sensitivity
exposures are performed.
Exposures at longer intervals can reduce occurrences of this phenomenon. Also observe
precautions as follows.
• Continuous high sensitivity exposures to vertebral body part (chest/lumbar spine) should be
performed at longer intervals than normal exposures.
• A high sensitivity exposure shortly after a high-dose exposure should be performed at sufficiently
long interval.
• When performing high-dose exposures repeatedly, do not use collimation of the radiation field,
lead characters or metals for measurement at the same position.

Z.3.3 Precautions for Assuring the Radiation Field

Do not make the radiation field larger than the size of the flat panel sensor. Especially when the high
tube voltage is set, the radiation field size should not be larger than the subject unless necessary.

Appendix Z Precautions for Exposure

Z.3.4 Images Output When the X-ray Shot Switch is Operated
Incorrectly
In case that you press the X-ray shot switch only momentarily after selecting exposure menus,
sufficient X-ray dose may not be achieved. The output image contains image lags of the previous
exposure occasionally.
If this happens, select exposure menus again, and then make an exposure.

Z.3.5 Precautions for Urgent Use

When you start a study before completion of the calibration at the time of startup, the operation will
be in Urgent Use Mode. At this time, “Urgent use is possible” appears in the “Output Device Status
window” of the image processing unit.
• There is no guarantee that the image taken in Urgent Use Mode can be used for diagnostic
purposes. Vertical artifact could appear in the image, if the temperature difference is large from
the previous shutdown of the system. Check the image quality before use.
• Move from the Study Screen to the Patient Information Input Screen immediately after exiting
Urgent Use Mode, so that the calibration will start over automatically.

DR-XD 1000 (DR-XD 1000PX) Operation Manual 897N200038C Z-3

Z.3.6 Precautions Related to Continuous Operation
If you plan to continuously run the system for over 24 hours, perform post-operation check, and
then restart the system.
Otherwise, calibration will not be performed normally, and image quality cannot be guaranteed as a
result.

Z.3.7 Precautions Related to Grid

If you plan to use your grid, contact our official dealer or FUJIFILM Representative.
Depending on the type of the grid used, its stripes may appear in the image after making an
exposure, and the stripes may not be removed even if the Grid Pattern Removal Processing
Software is used.
