CAUTION

In order to minimize the absorbed dose, make the distance to the focal spot as far as
possible (Minimum 45 cm).

Preface 24
CAUTION

Do NOT perform unnecessary standby operation.

If standby status continues after the radiography preparation button is pressed, wire
disconnection or withstand voltage failure may occur owing to an evaporation of the X-
ray tube filament.

CAUTION

Perform aging if an arc occurs.

It may result in arc if suddenly using the X-ray tube unit near the nominal X-ray tube
voltage (above 100 kV) after using the unit at a relatively low tube voltage (80 kV max.)
for a long period. This arc occurs due to loss of the aging effect at high tube voltage
after the X-ray tube unit has been used at a relatively low tube voltage for a long time.

CAUTION

Keep pressing the radiography preparation button (or the first stage of hand switch) and
the radiography button (or the second stage of hand switch) until exposure time is
completed. Releasing them before completing X-ray irradiation will stop the procedure in
the middle, and thus a suitable radiography image will not be acquired.

25 HX-DxH Series Service & Installation Manual SME-HX-DxH Series-3

Cautions on Radiography

WARNING
Do not allow operation of this apparatus by any person other than qualified personnel
(physician, radiotherapy engineer and clinical X-ray engineer), or allow a person to use
this equipment under the supervision of qualified personnel.

WARNING
The equipment can be operated only by qualified personnel, such as radiography
technician or a person with equivalent qualification.

WARNING
No person but only a patient is allowed to stay in the examination room during X-
ray irradiation.
If the equipment is not used correctly, operator, patient, and others may receive a greater
dose of radiation than necessary. If someone has to be in the examination room with a
patient for some reason, then that person must take adequate measures to protect him/
herself against the radiation (e.g., wearing a protective apron, screen, etc.).
* During radiography, the radiography indicator illuminates and the buzzer rings for
audible warning.

WARNING
Perform X-ray irradiation carefully according to doctor's direction when using the
equipment with expectant mother, woman who is suspected as pregnant, lactating
woman, or children.
Particular ways of using the equipment may increase the scatter dose absorbed into the
patient, which may cause a radiation hazard.

Preface 26
WARNING

Always check the X-ray exposure region by using the collimator lamp.
If irradiating outside of the required region of a patient, there may be a risk of exposing
the patient to unnecessary radiation.

WARNING

During X-ray irradiation, ensure that the X-ray irradiates the necessary region only.
To avoid unnecessary exposure to X-ray radiation, narrow down the shooting area of
collimator and take protective measures, such as wearing a lead apron.

WARNING

Do NOT place any unnecessary object in the X-ray exposure area.

Otherwise, it may result in unnecessary radiation exposure to a patient.

CAUTION

Be sure to carry out aging before taking a radiograph.

Before taking a radiograph, running-in operation of the X-ray tube assembly called
"aging" is required.

Refer to “X-ray Tube Aging” (p.30) for details.

27 HX-DxH Series Service & Installation Manual SME-HX-DxH Series-3

CAUTION

Be sure to carry out aging (running-in operation of the X-ray tube unit) before
taking an X-ray radiography.
Refer to the ‘aging’ procedure described in the X-ray high voltage generator manual.

CAUTION

Perform the aging if an arc occurs.

It may result in arc if suddenly using the X-ray tube unit near the nominal X-ray tube
voltage (above 100 kV), after using the unit at a relatively low tube voltage (80 kV max.)
for a long period. This arc occurs due to loss of the warm-up effect at high tube voltage
after the X-ray tube unit has been used at a relatively low tube voltage for a long time.
In this case, conduct the aging for X-ray tube unit by referring to the procedure described
in the X-ray high voltage manual.

CAUTION

In order to minimize the radiation dose on a patient, make the distance between
the focus and the patient's body surface as far as possible (Minimum 45 cm).
The shorter the distance becomes, the greater the amount of scatter dose will be
absorbed into the patient, which may cause a radiation hazard.

CAUTION

Pay extra attention, when irradiating X-ray for a long time or repeatedly.
It may cause a radiation hazard.

Preface 28

2. Pressing the UP button of mA to set the condition as 60kV 50mA 100ms.
(If setting mA mean value in 40kV step, it will not be matched with the correct value
in other kV steps. Thus, set the kV and mA mean values in 60kV.)

Fig. 2.53.

• After conducting Ready -> Exposure of X-ray, use only 1.4 and 1.2 conditions and
compare the value displayed on the OP console, with the measured one. Adjust the
one on displayed OP console to the same as measured value. (Do not adjust the
1.1 condition value, since the mean value (address 1.1) in the range of kV small
focus was already set in 40mA step. Since the kV value does not fluctuate
significantly in other mA steps, the CAL can be carried out as the 1.4 value.)

• Press the kV key to set 40kV 50mA 100ms condition.

• After conducting Ready -> Exposure of X-ray, compare the value displayed on
window of OP console with the measured one. Use the value 1.4, 1.3 conditions
only when adjusting the value displayed on the OP console to the same as
measured one.

• Set the condition 80kV~120kV, 50mA, 100ms by pressing the kV key. Use the
value 1.4, 1.3 conditions only when adjusting the value displayed on the OP
console to the same as measured one.

2. Installation and Connections 106

3. By pressing ( ) button, set the condition as 60kV 160mA 100ms.

Fig. 2.54.

• Press the mA UP button and set the kV and mA, after activating mA. Conduct
the calibration by increasing mA 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125 in order – total six
conditions.

• Press ( ) button to change Large Focus.(Large Focus starts from 160mA.)

• After conducting Ready -> Exposure of X-ray, compare the value displayed on
the OP console window with the measured one. Use only 1.1, 1.7 condition
values to adjust the one displayed on OP console to the same as measured one.

• Press the kV DOWN button to set the condition as 40kV 160mA 100ms.

• After conducting Ready -> Exposure of X-ray, compare the value displayed on
the OP console window with the measured one. Use only the 1.1, 1.3 condition
values to adjust the one displayed on OP console to the measured value with
same value.

• After setting 80kV~120kV, 160mA, 100ms condition, Using only the 1.1, 1.3
condition values, adjust the one displayed on OP console to the same as the
measured one.

4. Press the mA UP button to set condition as 60kV /200mA /100ms.

Fig. 2.55.

• After conducting Ready -> Exposure of X-ray, compare the value displayed on the
OP console window with the measured one. By using only 1.4, 1.2 condition
values, adjust the one displayed on OP console to the same with the measured
one.

• However, do not adjust the value under 1.1 condition, because the mean value
(address 1.1) of kV Large focus in 160mA step was set. Since the kV value does
not fluctuate significantly in other mA steps, the CAL can be carried out by using
the 1.4 value.

• Press the kV button to set 40kV, 200mA, 100ms condition.

• After conducting Ready -> Exposure of X-ray, compare the value displayed on the
OP console window with the measured one. By using only 1.4, 1.3 condition
values, adjust the one displayed on OP console to the same with the measured
one.

• After setting 80kV~120kV, 200mA, and 100ms condition, Use the value 1.4, 1.3
conditions only when adjusting the value displayed on the OP console to the same
as measured one.

2. Installation and Connections 108

5. Press the mA UP button to set condition as 60kV /500mA /50ms.

Fig. 2.56.

• Calibrate by increasing mA as 160, 200, 250, 320, 400, and 500 in order – total
six conditions.

• There are lots of X-ray dose in Large Focus steps, so calibration should be
proceeded with enough time.

• Calibration values are divided by two sections which are Small FOCUS and
Large FOCUS. Therefore, it should be calibrated by kV mean value (1.1)
separately.

※ Since 120kV 320mA / 100kV 400mA / 80kV 500mA are the maximum output
conditions of Equipment, calibration should be proceeded with setting ms as
50ms.

3.1 Error/Check Code

Error/check codes mean a system malfunctioning and failure. If an error/check code occurs,
it will be displayed on the kV, mA, and sec/mAs status window with an alarming sound.
When it occurs, a user can reboot the system for resetting a device, or fix the malfunction
and stabilize the system. Every error/check code will be displayed like the table below.
It represents the basic information on maintenance or actions for error/check codes
occurred in the system, for a service representatives or an end-user.
