Overview
1-1 Overview
Contrast Harmonic Imaging (CHI) is a function that allows images that have been dyed with an
ultrasound contrast agent to be displayed more visibly. Use of this function requires the optional
CHM-ARIETTA70.
CHI for this instrument comprises the following characteristics.
The Pulse Inversion method enables retrieval of echoes from the ultrasound contrast agent across a broad
spectrum and display them in CHI mode at a high level of sensitivity.
The Amplitude Modulation method makes it possible to reduce signals from tissue to get clearer CHI mode
images.
– CHI-B/W
This function reproduces signals from the ultrasound contrast agent as black-and-white images
(black-and-white images displayed by the CHI mode).
– CHI-Color
This function reproduces signals from the ultrasound contrast agent as color images (color images
displayed by the CHI mode). Because color images are displayed on black-and-white fundamental images,
it's easier to visually grasp the locational relationship between the target organ and the image.
Tx Mode
Aside from intermittent transmission, which can be used to adjust the interval of time and heart
rate, there are also Monitor Mode, Flash, and One-shot.
– Monitor Mode
This mode displays the monitor image and CHI mode image side by side. It allows you to check on the
condition of the subject while also monitoring the flow of the ultrasound contrast agent. The monitor
image is based on the same conditions as the fundamental image during CHI-Color.
– Flash
This mode sends high acoustic pressure transmissions at set intervals to destroy the ultrasound contrast
agent. After the destruction of the ultrasound contrast agent its reflux can be monitored.
– One-shot
A mode for a single manual high acoustic pressure transmission. It allows you to check for the presence of
ultrasound contrast agent.
Counter
This measures and displays the amount of time since the ultrasound contrast agent was
administered. When the counter is at “00:00” , the moving image recording function is ready.
When using ultrasound contrast agents during examinations, always pay constant attention to the patient's condition.
In a perfusion examination using ultrasound contrast agent, the pulse rhythm of the heart may be disturbed even if
the mechanical index (MI) is within the diagnostic range.
Always perform examinations using the minimum required acoustic pressure for diagnosis.
Depending on the how the ultrasound contrast agent is used, its mechanical effect (cavitation) on the subject's body
could be increased.

Before administering the ultrasound contrast agent, the subject may be hard to observe due to the low
lighting of CHI Mode rendered images. In Monitor Mode, both CHI Mode and the fundamental mode
images are displayed simultaneously, allowing you to monitor the subject on the fundamental image
while confirming the flow of the ultrasound contrast agent in the CHI Mode image.
The [Dual] key allows you to change the active screen. The active screen is displayed when cine

2-1-6 Measurements
You can measure the distance on a displayed graph or image. The following measurements are available.
• Point to Point:
Measures the difference between two points on a graph
• SD:
Measures analysis data (Time, Max, Average, Medium, Mode, SD) of a specified time phrase.
• Raising Time:
Measures the raising time of a graph based on the minimum and maximum values.
• Fitting:
Displays a fitted curve by determining the start and end points and measures the degree of increase
in signal intensity.
• Distance:
Measures the distance between any two points on an image.
• ITM:
Measures the numbers and proportions of color pixels in the Inflow Time Mapping image at each
time interval.
Measurement results are displayed below the image display area. You can output the measurement results
to a CSV file. (Saving and Outputting → p.82)
2-1-6-1 Measuring the distance between any two points: Point to Point
You can measure the difference between any two points on a graph. You can not only measure it on a graph
with one analysis line but also compare it with a graph with two analysis lines. You can set up to 18
measurement points.
To modify the point position, move the cross line cursor to the point you want to modify, and press Enter
key to move it. The point is set by pressing the Enter key once more.
