Conditional clause
Type 0 : - a fact ( sự việc có thật)
- sth is generally true (nhìn chung là đúng)

If + S +V (s/es) +O , S +V (s/es) +O .
(if present, present)

Ex: If we mix red and yellow, we have orange.


If I am late for work, my boss gets angry.
• Note:
We can use “When” instead of “If”.

Unless = if …not… (used with type 0 and type 1)

Ex:

Unless I am busy, I will go out with you.


=> If I am not busy, I will go out with you.
Type 2 : untrue in the present or future

If + S +V2/ed +O , S + would (could, might) + V bare +O.


(if past tense , would + Vbare )

Ex: If I were you, I would call her

* Note:
we can use “ were /was” with I / he/ she / it
Ex:
If I were /was you, I would never say goodbye to her.
Type 3 : untrue in the past

If + S +had + V3/ed +O , S + would have + V3/ed


+O.
(if past perfect , would have V3/ed)

Ex: If you had studied hard, you would have passed


the exam.

* We can use “might or could” instead of


would => less certain
