SUBJECT: STANDARD PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE (PM) CHECKLIST

EQUIPMENT: BUS DUCTS AND PLUG IN BREAKERS

COMPONENT SCOPE ANNUAL REMARKS

BUSDUCT AND PLUG IN

Inspection on External Appearance •
Check if there is any deformation, damage, dirt, etc throughout the whole length
BREAKER of busduct systems •
Check if there is any dislocation, bending and other abnormality of the
connecting covers, hangers and plug-in appliances.

Environmental Inspection •
Check whether the environment has become hazardous due to water,
moisture, high temperature, corrosive gas, immoderate vibration, dust, •
etc.
Inspection for Abnormal Heat •
Temperature reading of bus duct, connectors, plug in breaker, wire
connectors •
Inspection on Connection Sections •
Check if the busduct joint section is securely fastened with joint bolts and
both sides of the busduct joint section are held with a pair of leaf •
springs.
Insure that the leaf springs are almost flat and the pin holes are inserted
with snap pins. •
Insure that all the connecting parts, such as leaf springs, hangers, busduct
joints, joint covers, etc are fixed precisely. •
Inspection on Load Condition •
Ensure that the total connected load does not exceed the rated current of the
busduct . •
Measurement of Insulation Resistance •
Measure the insulation resistance between each conductor and between
conductor and housing. •
Inspection on Rust or Peeling of Paint on Busduct Housing

If there are sign of peeling paint or rust on the busduct housing, cleaning work
and touch-up painting are recommended.

Other. •
Ammeter reading •
Vibration or noise test •
Purging/cleaning using high pressure nitrogen •
Re tightening of bolts to required torque •

1. BEFORE DE-ENERGIZE THE SYSTEM •
1 Conduct thermal scanning. •
2. DE-ENERGIZE THE SYSTEM. •
1 After the busduct has been de-energized, remove the joint •
covers and visually inspect the joints looking for gaps in the
contact surface areas, cracks in the insulators, and
contaminants or corrosion.
2 Clean, replace damaged parts, and re-torque (68±7 N•m), •
re-torque as required.

3. BUSDUCT MAINTENANCE AND TESTING •

FROM LVSG (HORIZONTAL BUSDUCT) TO RISER(VERTICAL BUSDUCT-PER FLOOR). •
1 Check if there is any deformation, damage and dirt throughout the whole length
of busduct systems. •
2 Clean the busduct removing accumulated dust, dirt, and other
debris. Do not use water, liquid cleaning solutions, or chemicals
to clean the busduct.

3 Check if the busduct joint section is securely fastened with joint bolts and
both sides of the busduct joint section are held with a pair of leaf •
springs.
4 Insure that all the connecting parts, such as leaf springs, hangers, busduct joints
and joint covers are fixed precisely. •
5 Measure the insulation resistance. •
BUSDUCT PER FLOOR •
1 Perform a visual inspection on the busduct looking for stress or
damage and moisture intrusion. •
2 Inspect the joint cover bolts for tightness. •
3 joints, joint covers, etc are fixed precisely. •
4 Measure the insulation resistance. •
5 Check the zocalo floor for any damage. •
6 Check the fire stop (fire sealant) condition. •
7 Measure the insulation resistance. •
4. BUSDUCT PLUG-IN UNITS PER FLOOR •
1 Make sure the breaker is in the open position. •
2 Using a multi-meter, open the plug-in unit door and check to •
ensure there is no voltage present on the line side of the unit.
3 For fusible units, check the fuse clip contact pressure and •
contact means. If there are any sign of over-heating, replace
fuse clips.
4 Look for any signs of deterioration of insulating materials and •
protective barriers.
5 Check the operation of all mechanical components. •
6 Check the mechanisms of all electrical and mechanical •
interlocks and padlocking means.
7 Check for missing or broken parts, rusting, corrosion, dirt, and •
excessive wear.
8 Check the line and load connections to ensure proper torque. •
9 Clean off any arc spatter or soot deposits. •
10 Replace any damaged parts. •
11 Operate each switch or circuit breaker several times to ensure •
proper working order.

5.ENERGIZE THE SYSTEM. •

1 Perform an infra-red thermal scan on all electrical connections, •
joint connections, and busduct enclosures while the busduct is
fully energized and operating under full load conditions. Should
readings change with time, further inspection and corrections
may be required.
