ORGANIZATION:

I completed my community work requirement for my bachelor’s degree at Alshifa Hospital. When
I arrived, it was during a busy period at Alshifa Hospital I was genuinely excited to begin my work
there. Initially, I felt a bit nervous, with many questions racing through my mind. However, my
experience exceeded my expectations, largely due to the cooperative and friendly staff at the
hospital.
I spent a total of four days at Alshifa Hospital, and each day presented different tasks for me to
undertake. I was determined to give my absolute best in everything I did. The day typically started
at 9 am, aligning with the hospital's opening hours, and I ensured to arrive promptly each day,
ready to contribute to the team's efforts.

DAY-WISE DETAILS

1ST DAY

During my time at Alshifa Hospital, my primary responsibilities included providing guidance to

patients when they had inquiries and assisting them with their needs. This involved addressing any
questions they may have had about their condition, treatment plan, or hospital procedures.
Additionally, I was responsible for ensuring patients received their prescribed eye drops promptly
when called by the doctor. I would then administer the eye drops and record their attendance in the
hospital's computer system. This role required effective communication skills, attention to detail,
and a compassionate approach to patient care.

2ND DAY
On the second day at Alshifa Hospital, I focused on providing guidance to patients who sought
information and assistance. One of my tasks involved demonstrating the proper technique for
handwashing to patients and visitors. I explained the importance of thorough hand hygiene and
demonstrated the correct steps involved. This practical demonstration aimed to ensure that patients
understood how to effectively clean their hands to prevent the spread of infection.

Additionally, I was responsible for assisting patients with their inquiries and concerns. Whenever
patients asked questions, I provided them with accurate information and guidance to address their
needs. Furthermore, when patients were called by the doctors, I ensured they received their
prescribed eye drops and recorded their details in the hospital's computer system for efficient
tracking and management.

3RD DAY

On the third day, I did more to make sure I was helping everywhere I could. First, I worked closely
with the receptionist. I sat with them to understand how they manage patients and handle
paperwork. This helped me learn a lot about how the hospital works, and I was able to assist
patients who came to the reception with questions. Then, I joined staff in different parts of the
hospital, like the labs. I wanted to see how things worked there and learn about the equipment they
use. This helped me understand how important the labs are for taking care of patients. Alongside
these tasks, I kept helping patients directly. If anyone needed guidance or had questions, I was
there to help. I also made sure to respond quickly when doctors called for patients. I'd accompany
them to their appointments, give them eye drops if needed, and update their details in the hospital's
computer system.

By doing all of this, I felt like I was really making a difference at Alshifa Hospital. It gave me
valuable experience in helping patients and understanding how hospitals run.

Learning Outcomes/ Skill development

Patients at Alshifa Eye Hospital are receptive to learning when provided with proper guidance.
With adequate attention and education, they have the potential to lead healthier lives and
contribute positively to their communities.

 I observed a lack of awareness among patients at Alshifa Eye Hospital regarding eye care
practices. To address this, I conducted informative sessions to educate them on various
aspects of eye health.
 One of my tasks involved teaching patients proper techniques for eye hygiene. I achieved
this by providing hands-on demonstrations, ensuring that they understood the importance
of maintaining good eye hygiene.

 Through my interactions, I found that patients at Alshifa Eye Hospital responded well to
visual aids. By incorporating charts and diagrams into my presentations on eye care, I was
able to effectively convey important information and improve their understanding of
proper eye care practices.
