Visual Identity System Guidelines
Branding and Visual Identity (VI)

For the YANMAR Group, the YANMAR brand is a guarantee to customers of


responsibility, reliability, and quality. It is also a prize asset, built up since the
founding of the YANMAR Group through its commitment to customers in the
undertaking of its business. Furthermore, the YANMAR brand serves as a prime
resource by which to facilitate and develop future operations.

While the value of a brand may achieve firm customer recognition and favor,
the brand name must be given a memorable visual aspect. Therefore, a visual
identity (VI) system of design elements such as brand logotype and colors
works to visually embody this brand value, to have customers remember it
clearly.

YANMAR’s rapid global development and expansion of business in recent years


have made standardization of the brand image and the conveying of overall
brand strength ever more important. Therefore, to mark its 100th anniversary,
the YANMAR Group has revised its VI system (specifically, rules regarding use
of brand logotype and colors) to improve brand functionality. All involved with
branding design should follow the rules listed in these guidelines correctly in
order to maintain a desirable brand image for the entire YANMAR Group.
Use of these guidelines

These guidelines establish the basic design elements, such as the brand logotype and
brand colors, as well as specific rules for using such elements in design applications.

Consistent and correct use of the brand mark effectively increases and reinforces brand
awareness both inside and outside of the company. Conversely, incorrect use of the
brand mark not only damages the brand image and negatively affects its consistency,
but it may also violate the rights of other parties. You are therefore requested to adhere
to these guidelines.

These guidelines consist of two main sections: Basic Design System, which contains
information on basic design elements, such as logotypes and colors, and Application
Design System, which contains logotype display formats for various items. For more
information, refer to the "Logotype Display List" .

The content of these guidelines is based on current design data (as of 10/2011).
Some content may have been added or revised.
All the data in these guidelines can be downloaded from the Brand Plaza.

Basic design elements include the brand logotype


and company logotype which serve as the face of
the YANMAR brand.

In order to construct a desirable brand image,


these basic design elements must be used
correctly and effectively in accordance with the
rules of use shown on the following pages.

The YANMAR brand logotype is the basis of the YANMAR


Brand Logotype Group's CI (corporate identity) which collectively indicates
the company and its affiliates, representing the corporate
brand. It is the face of the YANMAR brand.

The brand statement conveys to the world the corporate


stance of YANMAR and its affiliates, as well as its
Brand Logotype commitment to customers. As a rule, please use the
(Statement) brand statement in tandem with the brand logotype and
refrain from using it as a stand-alone display, except when
appealing to the brand statement itself.

The emblem is a design element used on products to create


a strong visual sense of brand identity. It is used as a three-

The company name is the name used by the company in


carrying out its business. The company logotype is in an

The YANMAR brand logotype is the basis of

The brand logotype is a specially designed


set of letters intended to express the YANMAR
Brand logotype
brand visually and symbolically, and to do so in
harmony with the brand mark. Substitution of
another typeface or altering the logotype’s form or
configuration is prohibited.

In order to always maintain the logotype quality


and ensure that it is clearly displayed, a minimum
size has been specified and should be observed
whenever the logotype is printed. A smaller size
than this is not to be used. Also, although this
does not apply to non-printed materials since
conditions vary, the logotype should always be
displayed in a size that is clearly legible.

The registration mark (®) can be displayed when


registration for a given product is completed in
each respective country or region. Further, since
the registration mark (®) is often distorted when
displayed in a small typeface size, the registration
mark (®) should be removed when there is a
problem with its reproducibility.

However, as use of the (®) mark might be required


in certain countries or regions, feel free to contact
the Brand Management Department for more
information regarding whether or not it needs to
be displayed.

A global brand statement that communicates


YANMAR’s company attitude to the outside
world. The brand statement expresses YANMAR’s
commitment to providing a valuable business
model to its customers and to continual
development as a company together with its
customers.

Brand logotype (statement)


Below is the exclusive logotype used to display
the brand statement. As a rule, please use
the brand statement in tandem with the brand
logotype as specified below, and refrain from
using it as a stand-alone display, except when
appealing to the brand statement itself.

The emblem is a design element used on products


to create a strong visual sense of brand identity.
It is used as a three-dimensional display element
on vehicles, such as tractors, combines, rice
transplanters and other types of farming vehicles,
construction equipment, and boats.

The emblem's motif comprises the letter "Y"


(center), and three lines (bottom) which represent
"Land," "Sea," and "City": YANMAR's business
fields. The upper right arm of the letter "Y" that

protrudes from the ring frame is a dynamic
symbolization of the YANMAR Group's objective:
to forge a great future in the global market,
unconstrained by traditional business frameworks.
In addition, the oval shaped emblem frame uses
the golden ratio (horizontal to vertical ratio of
1:1.1618).

The emblem is basically used as a three-


dimensional display element (detailed use
applications are specified in the separate YIS
regulations). If unsure as to whether the emblem

The brand color is a color designed to accentuate


the uniqueness of the YANMAR brand. Epecially,
we call the color displayed YANMAR's brand
presence "YANMAR Red".

When the brand color is actively integrated with


applied designs, it creates a visually unified look
that increases brand recognition.

Please refer to the designated color chips, as


problems with reproducing the color may arise
due to ink, paper quality, or other issues.

YANMAR Red is the primary color used for the


brand logotype. In cases where it is difficult to
use YANMAR Red in the brand logotype, it can
be displayed in white typeface on a colored
background.

When monochrome display is required, for printed


materials such as business forms or newspaper

The brand logotype must be displayed independently


and should be distinct from all other elements. A
specified clear space is maintained around the brand
logotype to ensure that they are not confused
with other elements being displayed and to make
sure their own distinctive impression is not
compromised. When displaying other elements,
make sure to position them at a distance no closer

The recommended typefaces were chosen from


existing typefaces to achieve a visual balance
when the company logotype is displayed together
with actual information (address and phone
number). Please prioritize these typefaces over
others. However, this is not intended to limit
creativity when expressing a product “worldview”
in advertising, nor is intended to restrict freedom
in choosing fonts to create the best image. The
most appropriate typeface should be chosen in
each case.

Use Arial when Helvetica Neue is unavailable.

The Yanmar "jingle" is used at the end of all TV Standard Internet search
commercials, promotional DVD, web video and
radio in Japan to clearly identify the commercial 720 720
with the Yanmar brand and to provide brand
penetration. The "jingle" is not required to be used
in TV commercials, but is an available option if it is
desired. If you are interested in using the "jingle"
