Chart Calculation Worksheet ‘A’ - Noon

Calculation of the Angles (Ascendant-Descendant & MC-IC)
N.B. Use the 12 hour clock and remember that the positions shown in the ephemeris are for noon

PART I
To Find Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) Date and D M Y
Time of Birth
Birth Date
Birth Place:
D M S
Latitude N /S
Longitude E /W
H M S
Birth Time as given am /pm
Zone Standard E- /W+
Daylight Saving or Summer Time -

Result: Greenwich Time at birth am /pm

Greenwich Date

PART 2
To Find Local Sidereal Time at Birth H M S
SIDEREAL TIME at Noon GMT
Interval: am birth – interval to Noon -
pm birth – interval from Noon +
Result
Acceleration on Interval am birth - X
[10 seconds per hour]1 pm birth +
Result: Sidereal Time at Greenwich at birth

Longitude Equivalent2 E +
W -
Result: Local Sidereal Time at Birth

PART 3
To find the ASC and MC ASC MC
1. For Northern Latitudes: from Tables of Houses for the nearest latitude,
find the nearest Sidereal Time to the Local Sidereal Time at Birth:
2. For Southern Latitudes: add 12 hours to the Local Sidereal Time at Birth
and from the Table of Houses for Northern Latitudes find the nearest Sidereal
Time and reverse the signs:

1
To calculate the Acceleration on the Interval, multiply the hours by 10 and divide the minutes by 6.
2
To find the Longitude Equivalent, multiply the degrees of longitude by 4 = result in minutes, and multiply the minutes
of longitude by 4 = result in seconds.
NB: Whenever your calculations result in a time of more than 24 hours, subtract 24 hours from that figure. Equally, if
you ever need to subtract a greater time from a smaller time, add 24 hours to the smaller time.
