MASLOW'S HIERARCHY
OF NEEDS 40

A pyramid-shaped theory of motivation,

30
Maslow's hierarchy of needs assigns a
person's needs a ranking according to
their perceived significance. Although 20

this may vary depending on external

conditions or individual variances, it 10
implies that individuals are generally
driven to satisfy lower fundamental

needs before satisfying higher wants.

Objectives
People all throughout the world are impacted by the
pandemic's effects, which range from seclusion and quarantine
to pain and death. The epidemic is still bringing the world to its
knees. COVID-19 has affected diverse groups of individuals in
different ways and to different degrees. The pandemic affects
certain vulnerable populations more severely than others,
including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing
medical issues. When schools were closed and locked down,
children felt helpless and depressed, which was correlated with
a rise in the number of unintentional injuries and suicides.
Healthcare professionals are another distinct group that is
highlighted. Frontline healthcare personnel have experienced
heightened levels of anxiety, sadness, and sleeplessness as a
result of actively caring with COVID-19 patients in high-risk
environments.
01. Physiological Needs
The crisis has had a substantial impact on physiological
needs, with essential dietary items including toilet paper,
flour, eggs, rice, and pasta in short supply. A lot of people
found it impossible to go shopping or to sleep. Many people
now place a higher priority on basic needs than in the past.
Job conditions have changed, making meeting fundamental
standards more challenging. Homebound orders have made it
difficult for many people to maintain physiological health
since activities normally linked with health maintenance may
not be available. This issue has impacted everyday routines
and the ability to meet basic needs.
2.0 SAFETY NEEDS
When the first tier is disrupted it was difficult to
start with, but when the second tier was affected,
life became somewhat tougher. Financial and job
security issues put a strain on the Safety Need,
resulting in closures, extended layoffs, and job
losses. One major problem was the lack of Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) for frontline staff. The
labor was not adequately protected, though. Basic
human needs can be addressed by living with a loving
family, but everyday family activities and
communication tools like FaceTime, group chats, and
encouraging social media channels might be difficult
if one feels alienated.
The most difficult layer of social and belongingness is the third one,
3.0 where we battle with the lack of in-person relationships with friends
and family. Even with today's technology, this still has a big influence
on our daily life. A key element of professional wellbeing is Maslow's
hierarchy of needs, which takes into account the four degrees of
need—respect, fairness, and control.

Social belongings
Using Maslow's hierarchy of needs, mental health
problems such as physician burnout may be addressed.
The belief in an internal locus of control and neuroticism
are associated with meeting fundamental needs,
suggesting that meeting basic needs has a direct

influence on stress management and psychological well-
being. Human needs are interconnected on all five levels,

Esteem
and adjustments made on one level have an impact on the
fulfillment of other levels. Relationships between each
level can be bidirectional thanks to this flexibility. For
example, teleconsultation services for patients with mild
to severe diseases were offered throughout the pandemic;
however, these services were only fulfilled when basic
necessities such as food, medication, and internet access
were accessible. This strategy makes it possible to
implement mental health therapies more successfully.
5.0 Self Actualization
For many people, self-actualization has A depressed rut may ensue from this

of low motivation. Maslow's hierarchy of self-worth, love, and belonging
needs can be used to inform
psychological therapies, although continue to deteriorate. A negative

in requirements may be predicted or
explained using a cause-and-effect
model. For instance, declining social
ties and fewer access to protective
factors might result from declining
physical health, which can then
contribute to declining mental health.
Conclusion
It could take some time to reach the top of the hierarchy, but
it doesn't have to. It is imperative that you maintain
composure and rationality while things go back to normal
and safety protocols are put in place. As we recall the
availability of food, drink, and a secure place to sleep, the
five categories will level out. Even when our loved ones
aren't physically present with us, they still care about and
love us, and government programmes are available to assist
those in need. We can count on friends and family to be
there for us while we acclimate to our new lifestyles and to
let them know that we support them.
