1. Sketch and describe the operation of a planimeter.


2. Outline the Simpson’s rule and state its limitation
3. The following readings were taken on a levelling staff at 20 m intervals 0.968, 1.055,
1.578, 2.157, 2.736, 3.598, 4.236, 0.929, 1.852, (BM: RL=1850.786). If the instrument
was shifted after the third and the sixth reading,
a) Rule out a level book and enter the readings
b) Reduce the levels using height of collimation method and apply the
arithmetic checks
4. The following offsets were taken from a chain line to hedge:

Compute the area included in the chain area, hedge and the offset by
i Mid-ordinate
ii Average ordinate
iii Simpsons rule
