● Agree on a place where you can stay for the night. (Camping, youth

● Discuss how you are going to travel.

The situation:
You are looking for a flat to rent. You have found an advertisement and you
are now phoning the owner to find out about the flat. (The role of the owner
will be played by your examiner.)
Your task:
● Ask about the location, the number and size of rooms, the view, the
rent and the transport.
● Ask about rules for using/looking after the flat, e.g. having parties,
cleaning, etc.
● Find out when you can go and see the flat.
3 minutes.

These pictures show two different kinds of food. Compare and contrast them.
Include the following points:
● Which food would you prefer and why?
● How healthy do you think your diet is? Do you think you should
change anything about it?
● Can you cook?

The situation: You would like to go out and watch a film with your friend.
Your friend will be played by your examiner.

The situation: You are invited to one of your friend’s birthday parties and you
would like to buy a present for her/him. Discuss with your mum/dad (she/he
will be played by your examiner) what would be the best present.
Your task:
● Talk about the money that you could spend on the present
● Discuss why each of the presents below would suit or not suit your
friend
● How to wrap the present

These pictures show different jobs. Compare and contrast them. Include the
following points:
● What activities or tasks do these people have?
● Which job offers better payment or work conditions?
● What’s a typical working day for these people like?
● Which job would you choose and why?
● What are your career plans?

World of work - Finding a summer job
Situation: You are looking for a summer job at an agency. Talk to the
manager about the following points. (The manager will be played by your
examiner.)
Your task:
● Introduce yourself.
● Ask the manager what jobs they can offer and choose a job you would like
to do.
● Ask him/her about the duties of the job.
● Ask him/her about the working conditions, hours, pay, days off, etc).
● Let him/her know if you are interested in the job and ask what happens
next.

These pictures show two ways people are damaging the environment. Using
the images as ideas, talk about the following:
● What other examples can you give of us harming our planet?
● How do you think you pollute the environment?
● What should we do to save the planet for the next generation?

The situation: You are participating in a student exchange, and your

exchange partner is coming to Hungary. Plan some programs for him/her
with your friend. (Your friend will be played by your examiner.)
Your task:
● Suggest sights to see in your village or Budapest. Explain why they are
interesting.
● Make sure he/she can buy some souvenirs. Where will you take
him/her shopping?
● Recommend a cultural programme, too. (E.g. concert, folk dance,
theatre performance, opera)
3 minutes.
Science and technology - Talking about technological development
These pictures show examples of technological development. Describe them.

● How does technological development affect your everyday life?
(electric cars, smart phones, smart houses)
● How does technology change the future? Is change inevitable?
● Advantages and disadvantages of technological development
● Other inventions you use (e.g. the internet)

Free time activities, culture, entertainment – Choosing a sport
Situation: You would like to invite your English friend to do some sports
with you while he/she is in Hungary. (Your English friend will be played by
your examiner.)
Your task:
● Suggest a sport that you would like to do and tell him or her why it is good
fun.
● Explain where you could do this sport and what the rules are.
● Tell him/her what you need for this sport, and offer help with finding the
right equipment for him/her.
● If you can’t persuade your friend to do this sport with you, recommend
him/her to be a spectator or offer other sports to try.

People and society - Describing people, fashion

These pictures show different ways of dressing. Compare and contrast them.
- Describe the different styles and what they are wearing.
- Which style do you prefer and why?
- How do you like to dress in the everydays? What does it tell you about you to
the outside world? What is your first impression?
- What do we express with our appearance? What is fashion for?

Our environment - Persuading somebody to protect the environment
The situation: Persuade your friend to be “greener”. Your friend will be

played by your examiner.
Your task:
● Explain to her/him why it is important to protect the environment.
● Tell him/her what you (your family) do to protect the environment

and suggest ideas your friend could do.
● Explain what else can locally be done and how it is organised
(recycling).
● Discuss how your friend could help the local green activists and what
effect it would have.
3 minutes.

These pictures show different ways of how to live healthily. Compare and
contrast them and include the following points:
● What do people do to have a healthy life?
● How could we live in a healthier way?

The situation: You are going to set up a snack bar in your school. Discuss the
following points with your classmate. (Your classmate will be played by your
examiner).
Your task:

● How much to charge for the products.
● Where to set up the snack bar (outside, in a classroom, etc.).
● When it will be open for buying food and drinks.

These pictures show different kinds of celebrations. Compare and contrast

● What occasions do you celebrate in your family circle?
● How do you celebrate Christmas or your birthday with your family?
● What is better: getting presents or giving presents?

– suggest taking notes of the rules

– tell her what the pet needs and how much it costs

contrast them. Include the following points:

– Other possibilities that you used

Your task is to decide:

contrast them. Include the following points:
– Compare listening to music, reading books and watching films as

The situation: You have just found a nice second hand guitar on ebay. Ask
your father if you could buy it. Your father will be played by your examiner.
Your task:
– show the picture of the guitar to your father and tell him why you want it

– ask her if you could use his debit card to pay via the internet
– convince him that it is safe to pay by debit card

The situation: Your friend needs to retake a test. It is his/her last chance
before August. He/she doesn’t want to do it. (Your friend will be played by
your examiner.) Persuade her not to give up!
Your task:

● Persuade your friend that it is a much better idea to do it now
● Offer your help
● Suggest some strategies, give him/her ideas on how to start studying

● What are the advantages and disadvantages of shopping online or in a

shop?
● Do you prefer supermarkets to corner shops? Why?
● Have you or any of your friends ever had any bad experience with online

● How does globalisation appear in the world of shopping?

These pictures show different uses of the computer (YouTube, Instagram,

Google, Twitter, etc.) Compare and contrast them. Include the following points:
● the importance of computers
● the possible dangers of the internet
● advantages of using e-mail or messenger
● advantages and disadvantages of social networking sites (e.g. Facebook,

Instagram, etc.)

The situation: You haven’t decided yet what you would like to do exactly in the

have to make up your mind. Discuss this problem with the examiner.

● Describe your personality and skills
● Talk about the ideal workplace you would like to work in
